10 Fun Facts About America Even Americans Don't Know
How much do you know about the U.S.? Were you aware that the Library of Congress could have a record of some of your social media posts? Let’s see which of these 10 little-known facts about the United States will manage to surprise you the most! For example, in fact, there were actually 6 American flags placed on the moon during the Apollo landings. It’s unknown whether all those flags are still standing, but the ones that remain have most likely been bleached completely white, from exposure to radiation from the sun. Or what do you think America’s favorite drink is? Go ahead and guess down in the comments! Tea, coffee, soda, juice? If you think soda, you wouldn’t be entirely wrong since it was the top beverage choice for Americans until recently. Now, its crown has passed to…bottled water! TIMESTAMPS: Out-of-this-world flag 1:05 Americans on the moon 2:03 The greatest of the Great Lakes 2:52 The most visited museums in America 3:49 America’s favorite drink 5:03 The Library of Congress archives 6:05 “Hollywoodland” 7:09 Halloween craze 8:04 The Empire State Building lightning strikes 9:08 The Statue of Liberty 10:05 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - In the U.S., you can see the Star-Spangled Banner waving in the wind at fast food joints, standing tall in people’s yards or attached to their houses, and printed on all kinds of stuff like clothing, pillows, and coffee mugs. - If Armstrong was the first, not many people know that the last man to walk the moon was Apollo 17 Commander Eugene Cernan. - With a surface area of about 31,700 square miles, this lake is about the size of South Carolina! And with a volume of 2,900 cubic miles, Lake Superior is big enough to cover the entirety of North and South America in a foot of water. - Both museums saw around 7 million visitors in 2017, making them tied for the #3 spot on the list of the world’s most visited museums. - In 2016, Americans consumed 88.8 gallons of coffee per capita! So, now you know why your favorite coffee shop is always so crowded! - The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, holding over 167 million items like rare books, manuscripts, photographs, recordings, and plenty of other important and historic materials. - But when it was installed back in 1923, this iconic sign actually read “Hollywoodland” instead of “Hollywood.” It was originally meant to be a real-estate ad for an upscale district that was only supposed to stand for about a year and a half. - According to the National Retail Federation, more than 175 million Americans are estimated to participate in the holiday in 2018 and will spend around $9 billion. - The tallest building in America is the One World Trade Center at 1,776 feet. But for a long time, from 1931 to 1972, it was the 1,250-foot-tall Empire State Building that held this title. - A lesser known fact is that Lady Liberty looked quite different when she first arrived in New York from Paris. When the copper statue was completed and brought to America in 1886, it was more like the color of a penny. 10 Unique Animals You Won’t Believe Exist
10 strange and amazing animals that you have probably never heard of. Nature is truly full of surprises! We live in the twenty-first century, and all continents have already been discovered, all secrets of our planet revealed, all mountain peaks conquered. Just when you think you have seen it all, some new bizarre creature makes an appearance instantly restoring your faith in the impossible! TIMESTAMPS Mangalitsa Pig, a.k.a. “a pig in sheep’s clothing” 0:50 Rhinopithecus or golden snub-nosed monkey 1:33 Emperor tamarin 2:13 Patagonian Mara 3:04 Fluffy cow 3:52 Markhor Goat 4:44 Raccoon dog 5:23 Blue Footed Booby 6:25 Malayan Colugo 7:13 Venezuelan Poodle Moth 8:09 BONUS 8:56 SUMMARY - The birthplace of this curly-haired pig is Hungary where it was discovered in the mid-19th century. Due to the fleece covering this animal, it resembles a sheep, therefore, such a name! - The name of this species is roxellana, and there is a story behind it. It is believed that they were called this way after the supposedly snub-nosed courtesan of Suleiman the Magnificent (a 16th century Sultan of the Ottoman Empire). - They were called like this because of the resemblance of their mustache to that of German Emperor Wilhelm II. - Patagonia Mara is the fourth largest rodent on our planet. There are several interesting facts about them. Females often put offsprings into crèches for safety. - Fluffy cows are looked after by people whose work is to wash, dry and use products to style these animals, so they look as fluffy as they do! It is necessary to maintain them daily, and it will take months of regular grooming until they get this lovely look of kids toys. - If you see a creature which looks as if it’s trying to catch an alien radio signal from space, it’s most likely Markhor Goat. They can grow as long as 6 ft from head to tail! - If you can’t decide if you want to have a dog or a raccoon as a pet, we have just the thing for you - raccoon dog! Despite having raccoon-like markings on their fur, they are not very closely related to the North American raccoon. - Blue Footed Booby are to catch your eye if you ever visit the Galapagos Islands. They can look a bit clumsy and comical on land, but they are excellent at flying and swimming. - Colugo has a large gliding membrane (like a flying squirrel), and they can glide for long distances between trees standing far apart. - Even if the Poodle Moth may look as if it lives in Antarctica with all this fur, in fact, it comes from Venezuela, a tropical country. Its hairs don’t serve for heating. BONUS Cloud Antelope! This species lives in the clouds (that’s why such a name)! Its bright blue fur is the reflection of cloudless blue skies in the area of its habitat. Its diet consists of sun rays and candies... A lot of students may find history boring and would rather focus on the here and now, but sometimes history can be surprising. Bizarre facts and events that we may not have learned about from our high school textbooks. Try as we may, not all information can be stored in a single textbook and history is not an exact science. But these are some of those intriguing events and people that helped shaped the world as we know it today, whether we learned about them in school or not. Top 15 Smallest Animals In The World - Interesting facts about animals
Have you ever asked yourself the question—"Which animal is the smallest in the world?” Well, the animals on this list are so small that it’ll blow your mind! Even more interesting, many of these animals have only recently been discovered by scientists and researchers. And I'll make you think about what other small creatures can hide in some places of the world. So, without further ado, here are the fifteen smallest animals in the world. You won’t believe your eyes! The smallest bird These baby hummingbirds mostly live in Cuba. They weigh no more than 0.07 ounces, and they measure only 2.4 inches, max, including the beak. Even compared to some mid-sized species of beetle weigh twenty times more than these petit little hummingbirds. Dwarf hummingbird eggs only range between a quarter to a half inch in length. In addition, as these tiny birds beat their wings, it makes a sound that’s very similar to the buzzing of insects. As a result, it’s difficult to distinguish them from common bees. Hummingbirds feed exclusively on nectar, and—despite their tiny size—they have massive appetites. To sustain the energy they spend beating their wings, they eat every ten minutes, consuming twice their weight in nectar every day! And, one final fun fact, this little bird is the only one in the world that can fly backwards. The smallest chameleon Small Rukesia are a species of tiny chameleons from deep in the forests of Madagascar. These reptiles are so elusive and so small, it’s hard to believe they even exist. They range from 0.4 to 1.2 inches in length, and mostly live among the fallen leaves in moist rainforests. Unlike most chameleons, they don’t have the ability to change color, but they don’t seem to really need it. They’ve adapted to blend in with leaves and sticks in their environment. Well, at least, this provides some kind of camouflage. The smallest cat Although, a dwarf breed of cat exists, known as "Manochkin", the world’s smallest cat isn’t one of them. He was discovered living in Illinois, in the US. He only weighs 2.2 pounds, and measures in at an insanely small 6 inches long. His name is "Mr. Peebles". According to veterinary experts, Mr. Peebles’ small stature is the result of a rare genetic defect. But don’t worry, he lives a perfectly normal and happy life with his owners.

30 incredible facts about the human body that will deeply impress you. We bet you’ve never heard about half of them! We tend to think that we know our bodies perfectly. We are aware of how they work and what kinds of processes occur in them every second. In fact, the human body is one complex and mysterious mechanism that sometimes confuses even the most qualified specialists — doctors and scientists. SUMMARY 1. A tongue print is absolutely unique. 2. A single hair can hold the weight of a hanging apple. 3. The number of bacteria in a person’s mouth is equal to the number of people living on Earth, or even more. 4. Nails that are soft and brittle, with no moon, could indicate an overactive thyroid. 5. The speed of an incoming brain impulse is about 400 km/h. 6. There are not just four different blood types as we used to think but in fact 29! 7. Over the course of just one day, our blood ’runs’ the distance of 11,9999 miles (or 19,312 kilometers). 8. Men also have glands that can produce milk, but its production represents an abnormality for the male body. 9. A human makes approximately 20,000 breaths per day. 10. Almost all people in the world have special mites on their eyelashes called Demodex. 11. A human eye can distinguish up to 10 million different colors. But our brain can’t remember all of them. 12. Our ears keep on growing throughout our lives with almost unbelievable speed — a quarter of a millimeter per year! 13. The heart beats 35 million times a year. 14. Every day, the human body loses about one million skin cells — that amounts to 4,5 lbs. (or 2 kilos) every year. 15. 1 square centimeter of your skin contains around a hundred pain sensors. 16. The speed of your sneeze is 100 miles per hour (or 140 km per hour). 29. A feeling of thirst occurs when water loss is equal to 1% of your body weight. 10 Weird Facts About The UK
top 10 interesting things you didn't know about the United Kingdom Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like Strange Things That Only Happen In America https://youtu.be/2DcIaNvAU2o?list=PLXK3uPjJ22FUgkmE10ySoALx9YjknvXHI 10 Amazing Facts About Twins https://youtu.be/qtBP5DAb15g Description: Despite the fact the internet has seemingly made the world a smaller place, it is actually just as big as it’s always been. Don’t believe us? Just take a trip across the ocean to another continent and then get back to us about how different things are. Ok, you don’t even need to take a flight, just hop in the car and drive several hours in any direction and you’ll find that the place you end up in is different in many ways from the place you left. Culture, religion, politics and landscape can be very different just a couple hundred miles down the road – even if it’s still in the same country. Yes, the communications revolution may have brought people closer together but the world remains as diverse and large as it was decades ago. For North Americans, Britain and the rest of the United Kingdom is one of the most familiar of the world’s foreign lands. After all, while the English we speak may be different today in a number of ways, the language so many of us are familiar with today has its roots across the Atlantic Ocean. In the grand scheme, whether you live in Canada or the United States, your country, in one way or another, owes its existence to this overseas kingdom. Both countries may have gone about reaching independence very differently, but in the grand scheme both exist because of the vast empire which existed long ago. Despite the historical and language ties which we share with England and the UK, once you take a closer look at this land, there are a number of characteristics which we might think of as being rather weird. There are the generalizations and stereotypes which most us know; such as belief that the British all have bad teeth, it rains every day and the beer is always served warm. There are, actually, quite a few other things about the UK that are weird and not based on stereotype or generalization. These are the ‘little things’ that set this part of the world apart from other English speaking lands. The following video looks at some of the weirdest things a traveller might find in the United Kingdom. Our other videos have dealt with strange things like Haggis and cheese racing, so we’ll move on to some other items you may be less familiar with. Ahead are a number of things you’ll find weird (if you’re not from the UK) from various laws and foods to word pronunciations, television shows and customs. Of course, these doesn’t make the people of the UK weird – well, any weirder than the rest of us. According to the law, there's a waist size limit for Japanese citizens aged 40-74. - In Denmark, if you turn 25 there and you're still a single pringle, you get tied to a chair or lamppost while your friends and family cover you in cinnamon from head to toe. - It's no big deal for people in Taiwan to get some pole dancers or strippers to dance for the dead at a funeral. - The small Polynesian island of Niue, an associated sovereign state of New Zealand, has some pretty awesome currency. - Ethiopia. 25 Crazy Facts About Planet Earth That Will Boggle Your Mind
Tweet this video! - http://clicktotweet.com/94cfU Can you name the longest mountain range on Earth? How about the shape of the Earth? It's a sphere right? The answers to some of these questions might surprise you. Here are 25 crazy facts about planet Earth that will boggle your mind. https://twitter.com/list25 https://www.facebook.com/list25 http://list25.com Check out the text version too! - http://list25.com/25-crazy-facts-about-planet-earth-that-will-boggle-your-mind/ Here's a preview: Earth isn't round. Centrifugal force pushes outwards at Earth's equator giving it a slight wasteline. Standing on that equator you would be spinning around Earth's center at 1000 miles per hour. At the poles, however, you would be standing still (and turning in a circle) You would still be hurling through space at 67000 miles per hour though The rocks you are standing on get recycled. Volcanoes spit them out as magma, they dry, harden, and after a very long time either get sucked down again by plate tectonics or get pushed towards Earth's core by a fresh layer of rocks above. Speaking of magma, the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth's surface was 136 degrees F or 57.8 degrees C in El Azizia, Libya recorded in 1922. The coldest spot was Antarctica's vostok station that recorded a bonechilling minus 128.6 degrees fahrenheit (minus 89.2 degrees C) On that note, Antarctica contains about 70 percent of Earth's fresh water and 90 percent of its ice Gravity is not distributed equally. Yes, you read that right. Places like Hudson Bay in Canada actually have less gravity than other regions of the globe. This is due to the fact that there is less land mass in that part of the planet thanks both to retreating glaciers on the surface and swirling magma deep in the core. Earth's magnetic north pole is moving northward at a rate of 10 miles per year Eventually, our magnetic poles will switch. Scientists believe Earth may have had two moons at one point in time. Some scientists claim we still have two moons...in a manner of speaking. Every now and then an asteroid will get sucked into Earth's orbit and stick around for up to 9 months. Although earthquakes are no fun, they are not the only quakes that affect the earth. Moon quakes can actually make a difference in the tides. As cool as moon rocks are, on Earth rocks can walk. Or at least slide. In Death Valley rocks weighing hundreds of pounds slide across the desert floor leaving trails in their wake. Scientists believe wind and ice are the culprits. The longest mountain range on Earth is actually underwater. It is called the mid ocean ridge system. It stretches for 80,000 km all around the world and is nearly 20 times longer than the longest range on the surface, the Andes Mountains. Not only that, the whole thing is completely volcanic. On the topic of volcanos, the most active erupter on Earth is actually the Stromboli Volcano in southern Italy. For the past 2,000 years it has been erupting almost continously which has earned it the nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean. Volcanos aren't the only things that explode gas and magma. Lakes do that too. In Africa, on the borders of Cameroon, Rwanda, and the Democractic Republic of the Congo there are several lakes that sit above volcanic earth which results in large pockets of dangerous gas being trapped beneath them. If they were to explode they would asphyxiate any passersby. 70 percent of the planet is covered in ocean but humans have only explored 5 percent of it. That's strange considering the fact that the ocean holds nearly 20 million tons of gold and Earth holds more than its share of greed. Granted, most of the gold is diluted. Each liter of seawater contains about 13 billionths of a gram. There is enough undissolved gold on the sea floor though to put 9 pounds in every pocket on Earth. The deepest spot on Earth is the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. It is nearly 11 km below the surface of the ocean (~7 miles) and only 3 people have ever ventured there Constructed from millions of tiny polyps, coral reefs are the largest living structures on Earth, some even visible from space. They also contain the highest density of life on the planet, even more than rainforests. If gold dust in your ocean water isn't cool enough for you then consider this, everyday about 100 tons of interplanetary material fall down onto Earth's surface primarily from the ice of comets as it vaporizes near the sun. Just to leave you with some parting food for thought, the pacific basin contains half of the free water on Earth and could hold all of the world's continents. And one more thing. The largest single living thing (apart from reefs constructed of multiople polyps) was a mushroom fungus in Oregon that grew to 2,200 acres. Good luck sleeping tonight.

WEIRD Facts About Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II has been the Queen of the United Kingdom for a long, long time, so of course, there are bound to be things about her that come out over time, facts and rumors about her life. I tried to gather as many facts about Her Majesty as I could and threw in a few of the random, speculative things too. The Royals are people just like us, which means they’re odd, maybe even a bit strange, and the Queen is no exception! Enough talk, here we go, this is Strange Facts about Queen Elizabeth II 8. Corgi Collection So I thought that maybe that it was an exaggeration when I read that Queen Elizabeth has had more than thirty corgis since becoming Queen, but that’s not the case. She really had had that many since 1952, when she officially became Queen, at times, she had more than just multiple corgis at a time, too. Apparently, in 2007, she had five cocker spaniels, named Oxo, Flash, Bisto, Spick, and Span, as well as five corgis, named Emma, Linnet, Monty, Willow, and Holly. Apparently, she’s a dog person as you can see in this picture of her with four of the beasts! She has loved corgis since she was but a little girl and has owned a fantastic number in the years since she took the throne. 7. Taxes Dear old Queen Elizabeth II isn’t required to pay taxes and is exempt due to the Crown’s legal tax-exempt status, but she pays them anyway, voluntarily. She pays out the equivalent of income tax for income that comes from the Privy Purse (basically an allowance funded by the public) and her private income. I guess that’s a pretty good example of leading by example. She can connect with the people who she rules over and shows that even the Royal aren’t exempt from laws, morally at least. 6. Long-Reigning She became the Queen when she was young—she immediately became Queen when her father passed away in 1952, and she was crowned at age 27 on June 2, 1953, and she’s reigned ever since. Pretty crazy, right? Data from the UK Office of National Statistics show that she’s been in power for so long that 81% of the residents in the UK weren’t even alive when she was given the crown, and she is the world’s longest-reigning monarch! Crazy! 5. All Sorts of People Alright, so the Queen has been, or has been portrayed by, a ton of different people in around a hundred different tv shows and movies! That’s so crazy. She’s been portrayed by Helen Mirren in The Queen (pictured here), Sarah Gadon in A Royal Night Out, most recently by Claire Foy in Netflix’s The Crown (seen in this picture), and by many other actresses throughout many years. It would be crazy to see more than a hundred different famous people’s take on you. I’ve got to imagine it has to feel surreal watching others portray various events and situations in your life. Sounds like something The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror would come up with. 4. Money Problems So, it’s no secret that the Royals have a decent amount of money, I mean the Queen’s estimated private net worth according to Forbes is around 415 million Euros, which is $513,642,595 U.S.! Although she has and makes so much money, she’s nowhere near the wealthiest person in Britain; in fact, she’s nowhere close to being the richest. Brothers Gopi and Sri Hinduja (pictured here) make the top of the list and together, have a net worth of 16.2 billion Euros, or roughly $20 billion in U.S. dollars. Can you even imagine? 3. Message on the Moon Did you know that Elizabeth II has a message on the moon that was taken there by Apollo 11? In fact, there are a bunch of world leaders from the time that wrote notes that were then transferred to a little silicon disc and transported to the moon! There, the disc was placed just below the American flag and left there for, whomever really. Hopefully, aliens, am I right? The Queen wrote a beautiful message which read, “On behalf of the British people, I salute the skill and courage which have brought man to the moon. May this endeavour increase the knowledge and wellbeing of mankind.” 2. Her and Margaret Were Party Animals At least for one night, they were—the night the Second World War was ended on May 8, 1945. Margaret and Elizabeth snuck onto the streets in very slight disguise but still managed to go undetected to party and celebrate the war finally being over. They managed to make it to the center of London, party in the Ritz, and catch their parents appearing on the balcony from the crowd below during a night that Queen Elizabeth calls one of the most memorable nights in her life. Their infamous evening has even been adapted and dramatized in a movie called “A Royal Night Out.” 1...

50 Wow fun facts
A great site for in-game WoW guides: http://www.zygorguides.com/?hop=scotch66 50 Wow fun facts (If you've watched my other fun fact videos before, then you've probably seen most of these. But there are quiet a few new ones as well) -1-The Goon Squad, a guild famously known for their in game pranks have unique accomplishment to their name: They're the only Horde guild to ever kill Thrall. How, you ask? Well, back in vanilla, there was a quest in Stonetalon, part of which had a quiz, where getting a wrong answer gave you a debuff that made you hostile with your own faction for about 15 minutes. Goon Squad rounded up a bunch of their raiding best, deliberately debuffed themselves, and set off to Orgrimmar to test it out. Blizzard fixed the quest shortly after the exploit was discovered, knocking the debuff down to five minutes and reducing all stats by 50% rather than turning you hostile. -2-during alpha, they only inteded to have 200 quest total in the game, 100 for each side. They wanted to have quest supplement grinding and not be the means of leveling. But players liked quests so they added more, but not enough as you could not reach level 60 by just doing quest. Once you got around the 50's you would eventually run out of quest and had to grind. -3-Alchemists could create flasks only at an Alchemy Lab. There were only two in the game, one in Scholomance and the second one was in BWL. So they had to go there each time they wanted to create a flask. -4-In firelands, there is a secret path that involves very minor wall jumping that you could take that takes you around some really annoying trash strait to the Spider boss. -5-An NPC named Oglethorpe Obnoticus can be found in Booty Bay. He's a reference to Oglethorpe, one of the really stupid Plutonian aliens from Aqua Teen hunger froce and their source of knowledge, Orb-naticus, a giant disco ball that Oglethorpe insists is actually a supercomputer. -6-Over the course of wow, Hunters have had 10 differnet aspects; Aspect of the hawk, Monkey, Beast, iron hawk, Dragonhawk, cheetah, pack, viper, fox and Aspect of the wild. -7-some raid additions such as /raidwarning, the ability to mark mobs and Threat Meters (wait 3 sunders) were only available with specific addons, before Blizzard added them into the game themselves. -8-During the Cataclysm beta Blizzard added a mob called ''Epicus Maximus", flying above The Maelstrom. (You can read about it here http://www.wowwiki.com/Epicus_Maximus) -9-In the dread wastes quest line you help free all the paragons of the klaxxi and learn about their history. Then in the SoO you have to kill all of them including one of the bugs you help grow during a series of dailies quests. -10-When Death Knights were added in Wrath they were extremely overpowered. They had a talent called (Shadow of Death) which turned them into a ghoul when they died, that worked in arenas. Gylph of death and decay had a random chance to horror whoever took damage from it for 2 seconds. They could turn themselvs into an undead with lichborn and heal themselvs up back to full 2 times over with the 2 deathcoil glyphs. Chains of ice would slow movement speed by 90% and would go down as the spell went on, giving them the best slow ever. And on top of all this they dealt massive damage. -11-Before the Shaman ability Fire Nova, there was a totem called Fire nova totem that once dropped, started a 5 second timer. After 5 seconds it would explode during tons of damage and stunning everyone caught in its blast radius. -12-In early wrath you could only change out glyphs with a Lexicon of power that are located next to scripe trainers. -13-Before BC, There were no Guild Banks, so most guilds used low level characters to store everything the guild needed -14-The Duskwood Night Watch militia is a reference to The Knights watch from a game of thrones as they both share simular names and fight the undead. HELLO GUYS HOW R U ALL . IN THIS VIDEO IM TALK ABOUT 15 AMAZING FACTS ABOUT HUMAN BODY . The human body is the entire structure of a human being. It is composed of many different types of cells that together create tissues and subsequently organ systems. They ensure homeostasis and the viability of the human body. It comprises a head, neck, trunk (which includes the thorax and abdomen), arms and hands, legs and feet. The study of the human body involves anatomy, physiology, histology and embryology. The body varies anatomically in known ways. Physiology focuses on the systems and organs of the human body and their functions. Many systems and mechanisms interact in order to maintain homeostasis, with safe levels of substances such as sugar and oxygen in the blood. The body is studied by health professionals, physiologists, anatomists, and by artists to assist them in their work. The human body is composed of elements including hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, calcium and phosphorus.[1] These elements reside in trillions of cells and non-cellular components of the body. The adult male body is about 60% water for a total water content of some 42 litres. This is made up of about 19 litres of extracellular fluid including about 3.2 litres of blood plasma and about 8.4 litres of interstitial fluid, and about 23 litres of fluid inside cells.[2] The content, acidity and composition of the water inside and outside cells is carefully maintained. The main electrolytes in body water outside cells are sodium and chloride, whereas within cells it is potassium and other phosphates. INTERESTING Facts About Popular Brands You Didn't Know
There are some genuinely good companies out there, but when you do just a little research, you begin to find that they are few and far between. We found a lot of good, bad, ugly, and fascinating things while prodding a little bit. Welcome to our list of Interesting Facts About Popular Brands You Didn’t Know Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 2. Coca Cola This massive soft drink company has provided millions with refreshing, tasty drinks since 1886 but we think there are some little-known facts about the company that you might be interested in. In 1888, following the death of Coca-Cola creator John Pemberton, a man named Asa Griggs Candler took over and, to raise awareness for the drink, handed out coupons offering a free serving of Coke. Of course, this was a great marketing ploy as when people wanted more they were more than willing to pay the five cents it cost for a glass. In the late 1800’s, nobody knew that soda was bad for you and they even gave babies drops of Coca-Cola in hopes of calming them down but probably actually made things worse. Did you know that canned Coke was invented for soldiers overseas? The soldiers they were designed for never actually saw the coke as the materials needed in manufacturing were scarce during World War II, so when the war ended they distributed them to civilians, sticking with the cans because they were so convenient and easy to ship. The best Coke around is more than likely found at McDonald’s. The two companies formed a partnership in 1955 and Coca-Cola ships their products to McDonald’s in stainless steel containers, not the plastic bags that it uses for other restaurants, and it’s said to be the best Coca-Cola available. Not everything Coke classifies as good, though. “Water Wars” have been going on in India for years, where locals believe that Coca-Cola plants in the area are sucking dry the water supply, and some of the population think that the Coke in the area is contaminated by pesticides. They condoned testing on animals and even directly funded laboratories to do so until 2007. They stopped the practice after PETA got involved because of a study where scientists cut open the faces of chimpanzees to see how their nerves reacted while encountering the taste of something sweet. 1. Walmart If you don’t know what Walmart is you’re probably Paris Hilton. But seriously, basically everyone on Earth knows about this giant corporation, and whether you love them or hate them, there are some seriously interesting facts to be found about them out there. In 2012, the company registered roughly $444 billion in sales, and if Walmart were a country, it would be the 26th largest economy in the world. Walmart employs 1.4 million people in the U.S. and more than 2.2 million worldwide. All of its employees in one place would look like the entire population of a city as it employs more people than the total number found living in Houston. If those employees were an army, they’d be the second largest military force in the world. If all of the lands that Walmart owns were laid out side-by-side, it would be about 1.5 times the size of Manhattan, covering 34 square miles. It’s no wonder that approximately 90 percent of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Walmart. The parking lots of the stores alone take up around as much ground as Tampa, Florida. Here’s the dark side of Walmart. They’re known to use foreign labor to be able to pay less for the products they sell in stores, and it’s been noted that most of the overseas labor is done by children. The children working in factories that provide Walmart with the products report being beaten, and work 12 to 14-hour shifts at 6.5 cents an hour, seven days a week. They’ve been sued for wage theft and in 2002 had to pay $151 million to workers claiming to have been robbed of their pay. On a scale of generosity Walmart falls a little short. Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, gives away around half of his net worth, whereas the entire Walton family has only given away about two percent.
