7 AMAZING Physics Tricks That You Must See
7 Amazing physics tricks that you can try at home! 00:12 Mould effect It's obvious that the weight of the heavy falling beads is pulling the remaining beads from the pot. However, it's not so obvious whats causing the large arc and why the beads don't just slide directly over the edge of the pot. It's said that you should view the chain as a series of short ridged rods rather than a flexible string of isolated beads. When the beads are pulled out of the pot by the weight of the falling beads it causes the ridged rods not only to be lifted but also to rotate. The combination of these two forces causes the end that is not being picked up to push down on the pot which in turn creates a kick. It's this kick that sort of pushes the beads up out of the jar while they are also being pulled down from the other-side and thus the arc is formed. Check out the full explanation here if you're still not satisfied. https://goo.gl/QaRyZZ 00:47 Cool pressure trick Heating air causes it to expand and cooling it causes it to contract. The boiling water in the bottle causes the glass to get very hot so the air inside the glass also gets hot causing it to expand. When the bottle is put into the cold water it quickly cools causing the air inside to contract rapidly which creates a vacuum and sucks the water up. 01:54 The lenz effect "Lenz's law states that the current induced in a circuit due to a change or a motion in a magnetic field is so directed as to oppose the change in flux and to exert a mechanical force opposing the motion." When the magnet is dropped into the conductive alloy pipe it causes a change in magnetic flux. This change in magnetic flux creates a current in the Aluminium pipe which opposes the change and slows the magnet down in order to reduce the change in flux. This video explains things way more thoroughly. https://goo.gl/idAvZs 02:56 Anti-gravity water trick There are a couple of forces at work here, air pressure and surface tension. The atmospheric pressure all around us helps to hold the plastic in place. In addition to this, there is a small pocket of air at the top of the bottle. Because no more air can get to this pocket an area of low pressure is formed. A combination of low air pressure inside the glass and higher air pressure outside of it help to keep the plastic in place. Next is surface tension and adhesion. Water molecules are attracted to each-other like little tiny magnets with a positive and negative end. On the surface of the water, the molecules are able to get closer to each-other than below the surface, this creates a sort of elastic surface layer. Adhesion occurs because of the water molecules positive and negative ends are not only attracted to each-other, but also to other materials such as the plastic circle in this experiment. This causes the water molecules to adhere to the plastic whilst maintaining the surface tension with the other water molecules. It is a combination of all these factors that keep the plastic in place and stop the water gushing out. Check out this post for a more detailed explanation. https://goo.gl/crM6Xy 04:16 Water on a string surface tension trick ^^^This trick works on the same surface tension and adhesion principles as the one above ^^^ 04:52 Ring catch chain trick The trick with this one is in how you drop the ring. If you let go of the ring with both fingers at the same time it would just drop to the floor. What you need to do is just release your thumb and keep your finger still. When you do this it causes the ring to fall at an angle which in-turn causes the chain to loop itself over the ring and get caught. 05:43 Fork and spoon center of gravity trick Every object has a center of gravity. This is the central point at which gravity acts upon the object. When you position a fork, spoon and tooth pick in this way, the center of gravity or the pivot point happens to be completely central and towards the far end of the tooth pick which just looks so wrong. It looks even more impressive when you burn the toothpick at both ends, this has no effect on the center of gravity so everything remains balanced. The reason the toothpick does not continue to burn past the metal of the fork or the glass is that when it reaches these points its robbed of its heat and goes out. Quantum Physics Explained
Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics relating to the very small. It results in what may appear to be some very strange conclusions about the physical world. At the scale of atoms and electrons, many of the equations of classical mechanics, which describe how things move at everyday sizes and speeds, cease to be useful. In classical mechanics, objects exist in a specific place at a specific time. However, in quantum mechanics, objects instead exist in a haze of probability; they have a certain chance of being at point A, another chance of being at point B and so on. Three revolutionary principles Quantum mechanics (QM) developed over many decades, beginning as a set of controversial mathematical explanations of experiments that the math of classical mechanics could not explain. It began at the turn of the 20th century, around the same time that Albert Einstein published his theory of relativity, a separate mathematical revolution in physics that describes the motion of things at high speeds. Unlike relativity, however, the origins of QM cannot be attributed to any one scientist. Rather, multiple scientists contributed to a foundation of three revolutionary principles that gradually gained acceptance and experimental verification between 1900 and 1930. They are: Quantized properties: Certain properties, such as position, speed and color, can sometimes only occur in specific, set amounts, much like a dial that "clicks" from number to number. This challenged a fundamental assumption of classical mechanics, which said that such properties should exist on a smooth, continuous spectrum. To describe the idea that some properties "clicked" like a dial with specific settings, scientists coined the word "quantized." Particles of light: Light can sometimes behave as a particle. This was initially met with harsh criticism, as it ran contrary to 200 years of experiments showing that light behaved as a wave; much like ripples on the surface of a calm lake. Light behaves similarly in that it bounces off walls and bends around corners, and that the crests and troughs of the wave can add up or cancel out. Added wave crests result in brighter light, while waves that cancel out produce darkness. A light source can be thought of as a ball on a stick being rhythmically dipped in the center of a lake. The color emitted corresponds to the distance between the crests, which is determined by the speed of the ball's rhythm. Waves of matter: Matter can also behave as a wave. This ran counter to the roughly 30 years of experiments showing that matter (such as electrons) exists as particles. CRAZIEST Laws in America
America is an amalgam of mixed ideals and sometimes those ideals belonging to the people in power get pushed onto the public and become laws. Whether good or bad, each state seems to have their own hard to believe law. From bouncing pickles to wrestling bears, here are some strange laws you may not have heard of. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 11. North Dakota The Code of Ordinances in Devils, Lake, North Dakota states in Chapter 8.20 under section 8.20.030 that no person is allowed to set off fireworks unless it is between certain hours. The official time they can be set off is between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm otherwise it’s considered disturbing the peace. The previous section, however, states that fire works can only be used no earlier than July 1st up until July 5th. 10. New Mexico According to a 2013 constitutional amendment for New Mexico’s constitution, all “idiots” are prohibited from being allowed to vote in elections. New Mexico’s classification for “idiots” is as follows: “insane persons and persons convicted of a felonious or infamous crime unless restored to political rights.” Apparently, as far as we know, this is the only law of its kind that is enforced in America. 9. Nebraska In the state of Nebraska, it is considered against the law for any individual who is afflicted by an STI or sexually transmitted infection to get married. The Nebraska Revised Statute Chapter 42 Section 102 says “No person who is afflicted with a venereal disease shall marry in this state.” This also coming from a state that has a no whale hunting law even though they have no whales whatsoever. 8. Montana Section 4-304 of the Billings, Montana Code of Ordinances explicitly states that rats are not to be sold as pets, toys or given to anyone as a gift. The raising of rats is also prohibited, unless, they’re being raised as food for either snakes, birds of prey or both. This law excludes scientists who use them as part of their research projects. 7. Alaska Under the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska, it is illegal for drivers to keep any animal in the back seat of an open vehicle unless they are enclosed in a cage or tethered to the vehicle. This is to ensure that the animal will not jump or fall out of the moving vehicle. The law was created after someone’s dog was reported as being a public nuisance. 6. Tennessee Back on June 1, 2011, a new bill was passed by Tennessee lawmakers that prohibits people from sharing their login information to sites like Netflix and Napster. The bill was backed by professionals in the recording industry as a way to try and prevent piracy. It’s aimed at people who sell the logins for a profit rather than those who share it with their friends but even they can be faced with fines and even jail time. 5. California It might be hard for some to believe but the state of California has a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at major retail stores. Some of those stores can also charge you 10 cents per bag if you opt for reusable plastic bags, compostable bags, and recycled paper bags. Under Proposition 67, the ban that was introduced in 2014 passed two years later as part of the November 2016 ballot and the legislation became permanent. 4. Arkansas Thanks to someone who was probably feeling a bit “hangry,” it is now illegal for a person to honk their vehicle’s horn near an establishment that sells cold drinks and sandwiches after 9pm. Most places are closed by 9pm so it’s considered as disturbing the peace. The law can be found under the Little Rock, Arkansas List of Ordinances as Section 18-54. 3. Arizona In the state of Arizona, it is illegal for donkeys to sleep in bathtubs. How did this come to be? Well, sometime back in the 1920’s a local damn in Arizona broke and a rancher’s house became flooded. The rancher’s pet donkey had grown used to sleeping in the tub and as a result, it was washed away. The animal was later found several miles away and was rescued. They passed this law so that they wouldn’t have to deal with an ordeal like this again. 2. Missouri The act of bear wrestling where a person, not another bear, physically wrestles a bear, was banned back in November 3, 1998. There are actually 8 different types of ways you can receive a penalty all of which can be found listed in the Revisor of Statutes. The class A misdemeanor was introduced due to all the animal cruelty violations. 1. Alabama According to Section 32-5A-53, Alabama state law declares that it is illegal for any persons to operate a vehicle while blindfolded. The same law states that the person may not drive their vehicle if there are too many persons to the point where it obstructs the would-be driver’s frontal and side views. Someone clearly attempted this and it resulted in this law being made.

200,000 Year Old Ancient Levitation Technology That Defies the Laws of Physics
Unfortunately, science has still not been able to figure out how to levitate larger heavier objects. Yet, history suggests the Ancient Civilizations might have already cracked this secret in their building of the pyramids and other megalithic monuments. Did they have some advanced form of sound levitation to move thousand ton stones—a task that present day builders admit would be difficult even with the use of modern cranes? In many parts of the world there are enormous monoliths that even in this brilliant era of technology no advanced crane could possible raise. Our modern society is proud of its technological and scientific achievements, but we are forced to admit that our ancestors possessed unique knowledge we still cannot gain access to. This brings us to the intriguing question: “Did ancients master levitation?”
Breaking the Laws of Physics. Open Experiment "PYRAMID". On the Possibility of the Impossible.
A series of unique practical experiments with the use of the "PYRAMID"  apparatus, which has no analogues in the world, continues. This time, everyone who wishes, regardless of distance and time, can personally participate in an unusual experiment -- to impartially perceive at a distance the work of both the Operator, located in the "PYRAMID" apparatus, and the work of the apparatus itself. The uniqueness of this experiment is that this intangible instantaneous interconnection takes place outside of time and space. In modern quantum physics, it is called "nonlocality". However, its nature has yet to be explored. The scientists are now only at the point of theoretical understanding that all the quantum particles in the universe, which are or have ever been in the same state, remain internally connected with each other. Amazing PHYSICS TOYS that will Surprise you!!
Hi Everyone :) Welcome back! I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself. Buy them on :  http://main.physicsfunstore.com/p/main.html?m=1 Follow on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/physicsfun/ This video contains : 👉 Parabolic burn mirror 👉 The Civilized Glass: a most elegant version of the famous Pythagorean cup. Functions as a normal glass, but if the glass is filled above the top of the central column a siphoning effect is triggered and all the contents in the glass drains out the bottom through the hollow stem. With this glass moderation is key! 👉 Pixelated Playing Cards: what one sees is all about the lighting with this transparent deck of cards. 👉 Chaotic Pendulum: magnets hidden in the wood base (and in the swinging mass) make this system nonlinear and exhibit chaotic motion- motion that is predictable with physics. 👉 Viscous Flow Mixing Bulb: art from mixing high viscosity fluids. Each LED bulb from EP Designlab captures a unique pattern based on the physics of laminar flow folding resulting from the mixing of viscous fluids- in this case silicone resins. When the resins cure the pattern is captured and frozen in place ready to display as illuminated by an array of 5 LEDs in the standard E26 bulb base. With this process no two bulbs are alike! 👉 CMYK Coasters: physics and psychophysics of four color printing demonstrated with acrylic slides that assemble to reveal Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring". Cyan, magenta, yellow, and  black (key) comprise the elements of the subtractive color model used in most color printing. 👉 Stirling Engine: low temperature difference engine turns a fraction of the heat of hot tap water into mechanical motion. For this engine the heat source is the hot tap water, and the heat sink is the room temperature air. 👉 The Levitron: spin stabilized magnetic levitation- will fly for about 3 minutes or more per launch. The spin rate of the magnetic top must be just right for flight, not too fast or too slow. Repost of probably my favorite physics toy of all time. 👉 Aluminum Flip Top and Magnetic Stirrer: dynamic magnetic fields from rotating neodymium magnets in the base induce electric currents to flow in the conducting aluminum of the top. These electric currents then produce an opposite magnetic field of their own via Lenz’s Law. 👉 Refraction Invisibility: when immersed in water the sea creatures disappear on one side of this card. Light rays bend at the boundaries between substances when the refractive index of each is different. This card is made of a silver card stock sandwiched between layers of plastic. 👉 Circularly Polarized Reflecting Scarab: the iridescent jewel scarabs like this one (Chrysina Gloriosa) have a very rare property: they reflect only circularly polarized light! When viewed through a filter that allows only left CP light the metallic greens and gold colors of the beetle are clearly visible, but if viewed through a right CP filter hardly any light gets through and the beetle looks dark brown. 👉 Diffraction Grating Suncatcher: a radial mosaic of thin plastic diffraction gratings produces a starburst of rainbows. 👉 Volta’s Hailstorm and Electrophorus: electrical forces due to electrostatic charge send foam beads flying in this version of the historic demonstration by physicist Alessandro Volta. 👉 Magnetic Newton's Cradle: the famous collision demonstration reimagined with opposing magnets as the pendulum weights- shown here in two modes of operation. A 1990s desk toy by Fascinations- sadly no longer in production. 👉 Kalliroscope: rheoscopic fluid reveals the convection currents generated by the heat emanating from fingertips. Invented and produced by Paul Matisse in the 1970s, suspended microscopic flat crystals of guanine reflect light and allow visualization of the fluid's motion. 👉 Oil Drop Cascade 👉 Plasma Globe: low pressure noble gasses exhibit glow discharge from high voltage, creating plasma filaments that rise upward due to heating- shown here in slow motion. Understanding Second Law of Thermodynamics !
The ‘Second Law of Thermodynamics’ is a fundamental law of nature, unarguably one of the most valuable discoveries of mankind; however this law is slightly confusing for most engineers or students. The main reason for this is because it has so many complex terms in it and that there are many ways that this second law can be stated, but most importantly, the majority do not understand what are the applications of this law. In this video we will create a real physical insight into this law with a minimum use of mathematics. AMAZING Physics Toys That Will Surprise you!
Buy them on :  http://main.physicsfunstore.com/p/main.html?m=1 Follow on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/physicsfun/ This video contains : 👉 Candlelit Infinity Mirror: parallel partially mirrored panes of glass create the illusion of multiple candle flames through the physics of reflection and refraction. 👉 Magnetic Stirrer Vortex: whirlpool powered by a magnetic stirrer (like those in a chemistry lab). vortices are just so cool. 👉 Mirror Anamorphosis 👉 Spring/Latch Polymagnets: this pair of coded magnets attract but don’t touch in a state of stable equilibrium at a distance of 1/2 cm- but if one magnet is turned a half twist they latch together. Magnetic viewing film reveals the specific and complex arrangement of N and S poles that allow for this set to act like a spring or a latch. 👉 Liquid Crystal Window: thermotropic liquid crystals go from opaque to transparent during a phase change from a crystal to liquid state. Here a portrait of a Blue Buddha is revealed by the warmth of the hands. 👉 Pendumonium: Stick man chaotic pendulum with 4 degrees of freedom. Desk toy from the 80's demonstrates chaotic motion of nonlinear systems. Note how the kinetic energy transfers from one limb to another. 👉 Story Scope: mirror anamorphic art- the distorted images on the cylinder are reconstituted within the reflection off the parabolic mirror. The cylinder has a series of connected images such that as the cylinder is moved through the mirror an animation is produced depicting a zooming in from deep space to the atoms inside the hand of a sunbather on a boat. 👉 Handheld Van de Graaf Generator: this $20 electrostatic generator can reach 60,000 volts of static charge. Sold as the "Fun Fly Stick" this device uses two AA batteries to run a small motor that drives a charge collecting belt which is visible through the transparent plastic of the device. 👉 50|50 Cube: custom 1 Newton SI unit version.  This precision machined block is comprised of equal 101.97g masses (each block weighing exactly 1N on Earth) of the metals tungsten (W) and magnesium (Mg)- however the volume of magnesium is 11 times that of the very dense tungsten! One must hold and manipulate this simple sculpture for greatest impact. W: 19.25g/cm3 Mg: 1.74g/cm3 👉 Static Spheres: triboelectric effect toy. The red acetate spheres are given an acquired net negative charge, and their mutual repulsion allows them to jump a centimeter or more as charge is manipulated on the PET plastic container. Bringing an object near the container momentarily moves electrons (charge) around creating repulsive forces (sphere v. sphere) and attractive forces (spheres and container) resulting in the observed motions. The red spheres interact with each other without coming into physical contact (as shown in 240 fps slow motion) as like charges repel. Shaking the system a bit allows the red spheres to pick up charge in the first place by colliding with the container. 👉 Hyperbola Clock: a straight rod glides through a curved hole in this unconventional clock based on the hyperboloid, the 3D ruled surface traced by rotating diagonal line. 👉 2016 Transit of Mercury: remembering the last time something got in front of the sun! The tiny silhouette of the innermost planet Mercury seen against the disc of the Sun. The magnified image is projected using a 4 inch reflecting telescope outfitted with a repurposed lens from an old 35mm slide projector. Note the presence of a small Sun spot which is much larger than Mercury! Transits of Mercury happen about 13 times a century- the next two will happen in 2019 and then not again until 2032. This telescope was constructed by my father in 1957 and has seen a few transits. A favorite "physics toy" 👉 Balance Toys : (system in stable equilibrium. No magnets used!) Vintage Balance Desk Toys Balance Dragonfly Balance Bird Flying Seagulls by Otagiri Balancing Butterflies Balance Squid Balance Jet Mini Balance Pterosaur Balancing Man Balancing Surf's Up! Gardener Ignores the Laws of Nature!
Can a complete hydroponic salad be grown in one tote? Watch me violate the laws of hydroponics and find out. I grew a radish, romaine and butter crunch lettuce, cilantro, and 2 Nantes Coreless carrots in a 3 gallon Rubbermaid tote with square holes cut in the lid for the 1.5 inch Grodan Rockwool cubes. This is the same tote I used to grow Kratky hydroponic carrots. Carrot grow details at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYa0Syea4P0 Plants were grown Kratky style, however several top offs (to about 50 percent reservoir capacity) were performed. Some refills were fresh tap water and some were nutrient solution (depending on appearance of new growth in plants). Thrips forced me to restart the grow, because I didn’t want to be spraying stuff in my office. Pest issue details at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHLbzEsSw8k I don’t check PH anymore, but in the past, this tap water has started around 7.8 and comes with about 350ppm of salts (mostly calcium I hope). My setup: Light fixture is a 4 bulb 4 ft T5 Milliard grow light 216 watts 6500k. Tops of the plants were on average 8 inches from the bulbs. 14 hours on 10 off light cycle was maintained by a digital Hydrofarm timer (little white box everyone else uses). Office environment stayed around 70 degrees F with 40 – 50 percent relative humidity. Nutrient Solution Recipe (same thing I grow everything in) 1 gallon water 2 grams MasterBlend Tomato 4-18-38 2 grams Calcium Nitrate 15.5-0-0 1 gram Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) Filmed on an iPhone6 Edited with iMovie 10.1.5 Voiceover recorded on a Blue Snowball ICE Music is Siegfried's Funeral March from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung

Faster than the Speed of Light - Could the laws of physics change?
Perimeter Institute brings great thinkers from around the world to Canada to share their ideas on a wide variety of interesting and topical subjects. These lectures and debates are aimed at non-specialists. No mathematical or scientific knowledge is necessary or assumed. Each event is explicitly tailored for the general public and everyone is welcome to attend. (...) The laws of physics are usually meant to be set in stone; variability is not usually part of physics. Yet contradicting Einstein's tenet of the constancy of the speed of light raises nothing less than that possibility. I will discuss some of the more dramatic implications of a varying speed of light. João Magueijo is Professor of Physics at Imperial College London. He is currently visiting Perimeter Institute and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics in Toronto. He received his doctorate in theoretical physics at Cambridge University, and has been a visiting scientist at the University of California at Berkeley and Princeton University. http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=255&Itemid=269&lecture_id=4050
