Queen - A Kind of Magic - Original Movie Version (Highlander)

03:20
I've always greatly preferred the version of "A Kind of Magic" used in the end credits of the movie to the version most people know that was released as a single. As the video for the single had no visual references to Highlander, I recut it with scenes from the movie over the top of the movie version of the song. Hope you enjoy it.

01 - A Kind Of Magic (Highlander Version) - Queen Remastered 2011

04:27
Written by Roger Taylor. This is the full version of the track with 'magic noises' at the start, and a lengthy instrumental outro; it is a much heavier version of the track, before Freddie turned it into a 'pop' song. Lyrics One dream, one soul, one prize, one goal One golden glance of what should be (It's no good) One shaft of light that shows the way No mortal man can win this day The waiting seems eternity The day will dawn of sanity Is this a kind of magic There can be only one This rage that lasts a thousand years Will soon be done This flame that burns inside of me I'm hearing secret harmonies The bell that rings inside your mind Is challenging the doors of time The waiting seems eternity The day will dawn (ahhh) of sanity (Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooooh) This is (this is) a kind (a kind) of magic There can be only one This rage that lasts a thousand years Will soon be, will soon be, will soon be done This is a kind of magic A kind of magic

Queen - Princes Of The Universe (HD)

03:47
Queen - Princes Of The Universe (HD) "Princes of the Universe" is a song written by Freddie Mercury and performed by Queen. The song was written for the soundtrack of the movie Highlander and released on the A Kind of Magic album in 1986.This song is the only song which Mercury receives sole credit for on the entire album. Later it was also used for the Highlander: The Series as its theme song. The song was never released as a single in the United Kingdom, and while it never truly charted, it is considered a cult favourite because of its relation to the film. In the movie, the guitar solo in the beginning is cut out. The music video was directed by Russell Mulcahy and was shot on the Silvercup rooftop stage used for the film, featuring a sword fight between Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) and Freddie Mercury (Freddie wielding his trademark bottomless mic stand instead of a sword) intercut with scenes from the movie. During the video, guitarist Brian May appears without his Red Special, but instead with a white Washburn RR11V. The video was actually played quite a bit on music video stations (in the US) when this single came out, despite not charting. Up until its eventual release on Greatest Flix III (VHS, 1999) and Greatest Video Hits 2 (DVD, 2003), it was rarely seen by fans outside North America, elevating its possession to collector's item status. The lyrics are from the perspective of the immortals, about the state of being immortal, the superiority it gives them to normal humans, and the test that they all always have to face because of this. The lyrics can also be interpreted as regarding Queen themselves: "People talk about you, people say you've had your day / I'm a man that will go far, find the moon and reach for the stars." The song "Who Wants to Live Forever" is the foil of this song, and features in the film.

1080p HD version now available. Here's the link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT1k3-fErCM I originally made a lower quality version of this music video (not the one posted here on youtube) back in the early 90's using 2 VCRs and a dual cassette boom box. I always wanted to remake a better quality version of this video after getting the "A Kind of Magic" CD by Queen and the DVD of the movie Highlander. I put it off for several years but finally made a better quality version (99% same editing cuts as the VHS version) in 2005 using the CD, DVD and a PC. Two years later I finally got around to putting it up on youtube. I hope you like it. Oh btw, some of you "old timers" (like myself) may notice something familiar about the credits in my video. It's my "homage" to my favorite music video show from the 80's, TBS' "Night Tracks". Just a note for those that know me another online name but might find it hard to believe me when I tell them that I made this video, I am also ARKM of ARKM Sabers. 1080p HD version now available. 04:21
http://adf.ly/YhsMw This version of one of Roger Taylor's best-known compositions plays over the closing titles of the 1986 'Highlander' movie. This early rendition has a very different rhythmic feel from the reworked 'pop' version, with added 'It's a kind of magic' hook, that was released as a single in March 1986 and became a woldwide hit. This take is presented here (Bonus CD 2011) in full for the first time*. * Actually it was released on Live At Wembley Stadium in 2003 as the Picture Gallery. Who Wants To Live Forever Lyrics-Queen-Highlander Soundtrack

05:20
1986 The film is about ages old, and self-drawn battle between immortal warriors until there is only one immortal left on earth, hence the tagline " There can only be one". The movie based on a story by Gregory Widen . Gregory Widen wrote the script to Highlander, which he then titled "Shadow Clan," as a class assignment while he was an undergraduate in the screenwriting program at UCLA. Widen sold the script for $200,000. It stars Christopher Lambert which launched Lambert to stardom, it also stars Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. The original orchestral score was composed by Michael Kamen, but the soundtrack includes several songs by Queen. Queen's 1986 album "A Kind of Magic" features most of the songs from the film. All of Queen's songs in Highlander were purposely written for the movie. Queen wrote many of the songs specifically to match the mood of the scenes when the songs were played, notably Brian May's "Who Wants to Live Forever," concerning the doomed love of Connor and his wife Heather. Connor remains by his mortal wife's side all her life and watched her age, and after she dies, he leaves to wander the world, taking Ramirez's sword as his weapon. The film was distributed by 20th Century Fox.

In 1992, Mercury was posthumously awarded the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and a tribute concert was held at Wembley Stadium, London. As a member of Queen, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2002, he was placed number 58 in the BBC's 2002 poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. He is consistently voted one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music. A Kind of Magic is the twelfth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 3 June 1986 by EMI Records in the UK and by Capitol Records in the US. It was their first studio album to be recorded digitally, and is based on the soundtrack to the film Highlander, the first in a series directed by Russell Mulcahy. A Kind of Magic was Queen's first album to be released since they had been acclaimed for their performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert. It was an immediate hit in the UK, going straight to number one and selling 100,000 copies in its first week. It remained in the UK charts for 63 weeks, selling about six million copies worldwide (600,000 in the UK alone). The album spawned four hit singles: the album's title track "A Kind of Magic", "One Vision", "Friends Will Be Friends", and "Who Wants to Live Forever", which features an orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen, while the last track, "Princes of the Universe", is the theme song to Highlander. Legacy: The single was certified platinum in Brazil for more than 100,000 digital downloads of the single. On Last.fm the song has more than 48,000 hits and is the sixteenth most listened Queen song ever. Queen - A Kind Of Magic (Highlander version)

Roger Taylor wrote the melody and chords of this song for the Highlander film, then Freddie Mercury wrote a new bass line, added some instrumental spacers, changed the order and produced a new mix with David Richards. Taylor was reportedly very annoyed that Mercury had almost completely re-written the song behind his back (reportedly whilst he was on holiday!), so perhaps that explains why the song was still credited only to Taylor. Roger's version is at the end of the film; Freddie's version is on the album. Not only was this song used in the Highlander film, but 2/3rds of the songs from A Kind Of Magic appear as well, making it the unofficial soundtrack of the film. At the Highlander film's climax, when MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) leaves Rachel (Shelia Gish), his parting words are, "Hey, it's a kind of magic." The phrase "A kind of magic" was the starting point for Roger Taylor to write this song. Other references to the film in the lyrics include "One prize, one goal" and "No mortal man." The album A Kind of Magic is Queen's twelfth studio album but the first to include a title track. This was a big song on Queen's 1986 Magic tour, which was their last with the original members, since Freddie Mercury would be diagnosed with AIDS the following year and was too sick to tour after that. Roger Taylor noted in the Days of our Lives documentary that "you just got a sense that he (Mercury) felt that he would not be able to do any more shows," which raises the question of whether Mercury had already been diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 but chose to make the Magic tour his final live shows. This was also the tour where Mercury wore his white slacks and yellow jacket combo, which has since become his signature get-up.

Queen 1986 Vinyl Picture Disc - Brian May A Kind Of Magic Album Interview - Sun City - Highlander Movie On this disc there’s an interview with Queen guitarist Brian May on the release of the A Kind Of Magic Album discussing songs like Princes of the Universe, Gimme The Prize, Friends Will Be Friends written by John Deacon & Freddie Mercury as well as Who Wants To Live Forever which he wrote in car after watching the Highlander movie. Queen produced the album with the help of Mack. Brian Talks About the Highlander film starring Christopher Lambert who starred in the Princes Of The Universe Music Video. This chat was just prior to the Magic tour of Europe in 1986 and talks about Live Aid the South American tour and the impact of playing to such a huge crowd The controversy surrounding Queen 1984 Sun City Concert in South Africa when the band ignored a boycott on the country due to the apartheid government. Quite interesting to hear about collecting Victorian photography which would Of Late come to light with the release of the 3D photography book.

Queen - A Kind of MagicK (Highlander Version) [HD] [HQ]

04:27
A Kind of MagicK is the title track of the 1986 album of the same name by the British rock band Queen. It was written by the band's drummer, Roger Taylor, for the film Highlander. The single reached number three in the UK Singles Chart, top ten in a number of European countries, and #42 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song is the opening track on the band's compilation albums, Greatest Hits II, and Classic Queen. Recording Name The phrase "A Kind of MagicK" is used in Highlander by Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as a description of his immortality. Roger Taylor liked the phrase so much that he used it as inspiration for the song. There are references to the film in the lyrics: "one prize, one goal"; "no mortal man"; and "there can be only one". Composition Taylor wrote the melody and chords for the version that appeared in the film, which Brian May described as "quite lugubrious and heavy". Freddie Mercury composed a new bass line, added instrumental breaks, and changed the song's order to make it more chart friendly. Mercury and David Richards produced this new version. The song was still credited only to Taylor. Whilst Taylor's version is at the end of the film, Mercury's version appears on the album. Taylor's version of A Kind of Magic did not see official release until it was included on the extra EP for the 2011 special edition of the album. Live performances The song was a live favourite on The Magic Tour of the same year, which proved to be Queen's last tour before the death of Freddie Mercury. Taylor often included the song in solo set lists, and those with his band The Cross. On the Rock the Cosmos Tour of Europe, Taylor took lead vocals for the song at some concerts. Music video The music video for this song was directed by Russell Mulcahy, director of Highlander. Notable is that Brian May did not use his famous Red Special guitar in the music video, but instead a 1984 copy. In the video, Mercury is dressed as a magician type figure. He enters an abandoned theatre (The Playhouse Theatre in London) where May, Taylor and John Deacon (all dressed as stereotypical tramps) are asleep until awakened by Mercury's entrance. Mercury transforms the hobos into the Queen members, dressed regularly with their instruments, then back to hobos again as he leaves. Throughout the video, cartoon images dance to the beat of the song which was produced by the Walt Disney Corporation. As May later remembered, the theater was old and derelict, and lacking central heating, so the band were quite cold during the March filming. Legacy The single was certified platinum in Brazil for more than 100,000 digital downloads of the single. On Last.fm the song has more than 48,000 hits and is the sixteenth most listened Queen song ever. Queen's compilations The Platinum Collection, Classic Queen, and Greatest Hits II all make an unsubstantiated claim that the song reached #1 in 35 countries around the world, but to date, there is no known territory where the song did reach the top position. Musical theatre actress Elaine Paige recorded the song on her album of Queen covers The Queen Album in 1988

The British rock band Marillion turned down the chance to record the soundtrack because they were on a world tour, a missed opportunity which guitarist Steve Rothery later said he regretted.[17] The band's Scottish lead singer, Fish, had also accepted a part in the film but pulled out because of the scheduling conflict.[18] The eventual soundtrack includes several songs by Queen, such as "A Kind of Magic" and "Princes of the Universe" (the latter also being used for the Highlander television series title sequence).[19] Brian May was inspired to write "Who Wants to Live Forever" after watching the love scenes between Connor and his wife Heather, which the song ultimately accompanied on the film.[16] Despite a mention in the end credits, to date a complete soundtrack album for Highlander has not been released. Queen's 1986 album A Kind of Magic features several songs from the film (although sometimes in different arrangements): "Princes of the Universe", "Gimme the Prize (Kurgan's Theme)" (the album version includes snippets of dialogue from the film), "One Year of Love", "Don't Lose Your Head", "Who Wants to Live Forever", and "A Kind of Magic". The album and single edits of "A Kind of Magic" feature a different mix from the one in the film; a 2011 re-release of the album includes the long-unreleased Highlander version of the song. The album does not include Queen's recording of "Theme from New York, New York", which features briefly in Highlander. "Hammer to Fall", a Queen song heard playing from a car radio in one scene, was from an earlier album, The Works. The 1995 CD Highlander: The Original Scores includes five cues from Kamen's Highlander score (along with six cues from Stewart Copeland's Highlander II score, and four cues from J. Peter Robinson's Highlander III score). Furthermore, a rearrangement of an excerpt from Kamen's score (specifically, the beginning of the track "The Quickening") was used as the theme music for New Line Cinema's logo ident in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The phrase "a kind of magic" is used in Highlander by Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as a description of his immortality. Roger Taylor liked the phrase so much that he used it as inspiration for the song. There are references to the film in the lyrics: "one prize, one goal"; "no mortal man"; and "there can be only one". The single's cover art features an image of Clancy Brown in character as the film's villain, The Kurgan. Composition Taylor wrote the melody and chords for the version that appeared in the film, which Brian May described as "quite lugubrious and heavy".[2] Freddie Mercury composed a new bass line, added instrumental breaks, and changed the song's order to make it more chart friendly.

Queen - A Kind of Magic (Highlander Version)

04:32
Released on September 2nd 2011 ℗ 2011 Raincloud Productions Ltd. under exclusive licence to Universal International Music BV. This is the ending credit song from the motion picture Highlander. This one is credited to be the original Roger Taylor's version, before that "scoundrel" of Freddie (said Taylor) turned it in a pop song... :D I used the well known official video mixed to fill with the "remix" of this song... Hope you enjoy this.

"A Kind of Magic" is the title track of the 1986 album of the same name by the British rock band Queen. It was written by the band's drummer, Roger Taylor, for the film Highlander. The single reached number three in the UK Singles Chart, top ten in a number of European countries, and Nº42 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song is the opening track on the band's compilation albums, Greatest Hits II, and Classic Queen. Taylor wrote the melody and chords for the version that appeared in the film, which Brian May described as "quite lugubrious and heavy". The song was a live favourite on The Magic Tour of the same year, which proved to be Queen's last tour before the death of Freddie Mercury. Throughout the video, cartoon images dance to the beat of the song which were produced by The Walt Disney Company. As May later remembered, the theater was old and derelict, and lacking central heating, so the band were quite cold during the March filming. The single was certified platinum in Brazil for more than 100,000 digital downloads of the single. On Last.fm the song has more than 48,000 hits and is the sixteenth most listened Queen song ever. Queen's compilations The Platinum Collection, Classic Queen, and Greatest Hits II all make an unsubstantiated claim that the song reached #1 in 35 countries around the world, but it reached number one in Spain in 1986, the only country where it topped the charts. Musical theatre actress Elaine Paige recorded the song on her album of Queen covers The Queen Album in 1988.
