A Walk Around The Hollywood & Highland Center, Hollywood

09:12
The Hollywood & Highland Center is a shopping mall and entertainment complex at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in the Hollywood district in Los Angeles. The 387,000-square-foot center also includes TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and Mann's Chinese Theatre) and the Dolby Theatre (formerly known as the Kodak Theatre), home to the Academy Awards. The historic site was once the home of the famed Hollywood Hotel. Located in the heart of Hollywood, along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it is among the most visited tourist destinations in Los Angeles. The complex sits just across Hollywood Blvd. from the El Capitan Theatre and offers views of the Hollywood Hills and Hollywood Sign to the north, Santa Monica Mountains to the west and downtown Los Angeles to the east. The centerpiece of the complex is a massive three-story courtyard inspired by the Babylon scene from the D.W. Griffith film Intolerance. The developer of the shopping center built part of the archway and two pillars with elephant sculptures on the capitals, just as seen in the film, to the same full scale. It gives visitors an idea of how large the original set must have been. The center has over 70 shops and 25 restaurants. Major retail tenants that face Hollywood Boulevard include American Eagle Outfitters, Forever 21, GAP, and Sephora. The complex also houses a Lucky Strike Lanes bowling alley, a six-plex movie theater, and a nightclub.

Discriminated and beat to the ground by Hollywood & Highland Security (Andrews International)

25:50
Incident happen on February 20, 2018 Situation goes as follow: I went inside shopping center of HOLLYWOOD & HIGHLAND CENTER to buy some items from Victoria secret and also rinse off some groceries I purchase at Vons store which got full of ice cream (that melt inside bag). After shopping, I went inside woman bathroom in first floor to wash off ice cream off the grocery items and then use toilet. While still inside toilet I was ordered out and accuse of throwing water to people inside bathroom and other unsanitary stuff by security guards of ANDREWS INTERNATIONAL. I explain it was NOT me and that I was recording since I enter bathroom for safety reasons so what proof they had of this horrible accusation... As you can see in video, they refused to listen and ordered me out. While going out this security guard with last name Potter start invading my space, pointing on me and pushing me out of HOLLYWOOD & HIGHLAND CENTER saying that I was trespassing and ban for a year to come back at commercial center. I try to explain I had video proof I did NOT commit any of the accussations in restrooms and that I was also a Customer that just did a purchase at a store before. Therefore demanded to speak to manager of commercial center to ask if I was really trespassing and they will force me out of the mall even do I was a customer...because in that case I wished to return my purchase. Potter kept getting on my face, grab me by shoulders turning me around and pushing me out of Center, threatening me at same time that he was going to hand cuff me and force me out. I knew it was ilegal what he was doing, plus he already had put hands on me for no reason so I proceed to exit mall while calling 911. I presume he was racist, because lets be honest he was treating me like garbage. He would have never treated a white lady like that. I walked out of Center to stand over sidewalk, but he said I was still trespassing because HOLLYWOOD & HIGHLAND CENTER OWNED the sidewalk.. WHAT???? I though side walk and street belong to city and public, but I still moved away to sidewalk in front of Forever XXI store. I continue speaking with 911 agent who was connecting me to police. I saw Potter and rest of security guards standing on stairs of main entrance to the Commercial Center watching me from distance trying to listen to what I was saying to 911 agent. Potter walked towards me again, harassing me and abusiveIy saying I was till trespassing. I knew again I was on side walk away from entrance to the commercial center, closer to Hollywood and highland train station. Because how could Hollywood & Highland center own the entire sidewalk??? Doesn't sidewalks public??? Plus where was I suppose to talk to 911 agent and wait for police on the street to be run over by a car...??? Anyway.. I moved again and proceed to enter Forever XXI store to finish talking to 911 agent and police and speak with one of attendants to see if I could wait for police inside store because I was being harrass by an abusive security guard. Before I had a chance to finishing speaking with police or contact Forever 21 store attendant, Potter was over me again, pushing me and threatening me with hand cuff me if I didn't exit store. While I was telling him what he was doing was illegal and to stop harassing me. He start grabbing my hands and shoulders pushing and hitting me to the ground and dragging me out of Forever 21 store. Other security guards join.. I had nearly 8 big security guards on me, beating, kicking me on floor and twisting my hands. I hit my head on forever 21 door glass. Could verly breathe because of all guards on me on floor. I thought I was going to die...I believe they broke my hand. After I was in ground in pain, because everyone was hearing me scream in pain and watching how they hit me...They wanted to move me to a isolated location out of public view. I was in pain, but was afraid they will drag me and continue to hurt me if I didn't move so I agree to move if they gave me back my cellphones. Because I saw 2 security guards trying to delete videos from 2 of my phones... The "thugs" got the wrong phones, the one still recording (previously on my chest area) was throw inside my purse. Phone kept recording while they took me underground to Hollywood & Highland center Security office. It recorded conversation with LAFD, LAPD police officers that arrived and arrest because Potter asked for me to be arrested (singing private person arrest). That video part was not uploaded to YouTube for "obvious reasons", but available in memory card. LAPD release me from custody in hospital with trespass ticket (602) pc M I presume because of poor conditions I was in because of beating and they didn't want me to be their responsibility.

Hollywood/Highland Center Mall

this is pretty much the "hub" of Hollywood. it's next to/attached to the Kodak theatre & Grauman's Chinese theatre. It's a HUGE outdoor mall, lit up for the holidays in Dec. There's a wide variety of stores from Aldo to BCBGMaxAzaria to Louis Vuitton & Sephora, and tons of others. The Hollywood Metro station is underneath.

Hollywood Boulevard Travel Tips: 10 Things to Know Before You Go

08:08
10 things you must know before you travel to Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. First off, Hollywood Boulevard is definitely not as nice as you think it is. The idealized Hollywood in your head is most certainly better than the real Hollywood. You've seen it on TV for the Oscars, and it's all decked out and amazing. The real Hollywood blvd is filled with shady businesses, crumby souvenir stands, and panhandling “entertainers” who will attempt to shake you down for a photo with them. Hollywood is also huge! There are so many hidden gems in the city, but most of what you’ll find in this immediate location is catered to tourists. Watch more of Ernest on the Trip Astute channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/TripAstute Watch our "10 Things to Do in Hollywood" here: https://youtu.be/_kD0SL9JqZE 2. Parking: Street Parking (Meter Prices -- but watch out!) Expensive Pay Parking Lots My favorite: garage at Hollywood & Highland, which is a mall that includes Chinese and Dolby Theaters. With validation (available with a purchase at shops in the mall), you get 2 hours for $2 or 4 hours for $2 with validation from the Chinese Theater. Daily max of $17 US Highway 101 provides the easiest access via the Highland Avenue exit south. This is also a great place to have a quick meal. There are several restaurants hidden away in this area where you can get a fast and affordable meal away from some of the more touristy restaurants on the main street. 3. Subway Yes, Los Angeles has a subway, and it’s one of the best ways to get to Hollywood, the LA Metro Red Line has 3 stops along Hollywood boulevard. And it’s cheap, only $1.75 per ride, any distance! Hollywood & Western, Hollywood & Vine Hollywood & Highland (Which is the best stop to start at) And it also stops at Universal Studios Hollywood, which isn’t in Hollywood at all! 4. Photos with Street Performers They aren’t there out of the kindness of their hearts, if you take a picture with them, or of them, they’ll expect some money. And sometimes be forceful about it. I’m not telling you not to take a picture with them… just know it’s going to cost you. 5. Food It all is pretty mediocre on Hollywood boulevard, and overpriced. If you want “cheap”, best options are the food court at the top of Hollywood and Highland mall, I like Poknomitry, or there’s an In-N-Out burger a block over on Sunset. If you want better sit-down eats, get off Hollywood blvd, head over to West Hollywood. 6. Making Movies They don’t make them here anymore… most movie making in LA happens in Burbank, which is North of Hollywood. If you are looking for the “movie studio” experience, check out the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, and Paramount Pictures Studio Tour, or Universal Studios Hollywood theme park for their Studio Tour. None of these are near Hollywood boulevard. You can take the subway to Universal Studios Hollywood though. If you want to take a tour of the Dolby Theatre, head to their box office when you first arrive on Hollywood Boulevard, then organize the rest of your day around your scheduled tour time. 7.The Sign: In 1923, an investor by the name of Harry Chandler had the letters ‘Hollywoodland’ constructed to advertise a new real estate development. In 1949, the word ‘land’ was removed from the sign and it became an advertisement for the whole town rather than just one neighbourhood. 8. The stars: It's called the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and celebrities can earn stars in 5 categories. 9. Celebrities have to pay for their star 10. http://standupcomedy.me - While working the tourists on Hollywood Blvd. as a street performer I always carried a pocket camera, when things got slow I would make chintzy productions with the other performers then stay up all night editing. After making over 300 short films I wrote a movie called Woggie, it's about life as a Hollywood Character, I filmed it over a 3.5 year span. Enjoy, Abe R. Rated.

Metro Los Angeles: Red Line Trains Arriving and Departing Hollywood/Highland

00:49
Two Red Line trains whisk in and out of Hollywood/Highland station below the world-famous Hollywood Boulevard. Hollywood/Highland serves Red Line trains only and is the last stop on Hollywood Blvd. before outbound trains head north to Studio City and North Hollywood. It is the first stop for inbound trains heading through Downtown LA to Union Station. Los Angeles has grown from being a city where the landscape has been dominated by car transport, to seeing an impressive renaissance of its once great rail system. Construction officially began on the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system in 1985. On July 14, 1990, the Blue Line began revenue service and became the first form of urban rail transit to serve Los Angeles since the closure of LA’s last streetcar lines in the 60s and 70s. The route ran from 7th St/Metro Center, in Downtown Los Angeles, to Long Beach. In 1993, the Southern California Rapid Transit District and the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission were merged to become the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, soon to be rebranded as Metro. That same year, the first stretch of a full-blown underground subway opened, mostly through Downtown Los Angeles, from Union Station to Westlake/MacArthur Park. It was known as the Red Line and Purple Line, soon to branch out and become separate routes in the future. In 1995, the Green Line opened as the second light rail line to serve the city, and traveled from Norwalk to Redondo Beach. The line connected with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) through a free shuttle that would take you into airport premises. 1999 saw the extension of both the Red Line and Purple Line, finally becoming separate entities. The Red Line was extended to Hollywood/Vine, and the Purple Line was built to Wilshire/Western. The next year, in 2000, the Red Line was extended to its current terminus of North Hollywood. In 2003, the Gold Line became the third light rail route to open in LA, and went from Union Station to Sierra Madre Villa, in Pasadena. It would be later extended to Atlantic station, in East LA, in 2009, and further east from Sierra Madre Villa to APU/Citrus College, in Azusa, in March 2016. The Orange Line became the first bus rapid transit (BRT) line to operate in Los Angeles in 2005, when service started from North Hollywood, where it connected with the Red Line, to Warner Center, west in the San Fernando Valley. It would be further extended north to Chatsworth in 2012, creating a split in the line at Canoga. LA’s second BRT line, the Silver Line, entered revenue service in 2009 and ran from El Monte, in East Los Angeles, to Harbor Gateway Transit Center, between Carson and Torrance. It would be extended to Pacific/21st St, in San Pedro, in 2016. 2012 saw the opening of the Expo Line, named after Exponential Blvd the line provides service on. The route initially ran from 7th St/Metro Center, in Downtown LA, to Culver City, before being extended to Downtown Santa Monica in May of 2016. The current network of urban rail for Los Angeles sits at what was just described above, but what can we expect for the future? Projects such as the Crenshaw/LAX line, the Regional Connector, which will drastically alter current rail service, and the extension of the Purple Line are all projects currently under construction and set to be completed within the next ten years. After that, we don't know, but there is much anticipation that this impressive rail system will continue to expand over the next several decades. In 27 years, Los Angeles has seen a rapid rebirth of urban rail-based transit options, similar to what Portland has experienced in recent decades. What we have seen is one of the most impressive comebacks of urban rail in any city in the nation, and that is something to appreciate. It will take many years to grow the current system out to better serve Los Angeles and the surrounding region, but if what has been done already can be accomplished again and again for decades to come, there is little doubt Los Angeles will be on its way to joining the great list of urban rail systems.
