If you are a fan of films, then you must have seen some logos that have left you wondering, ‘What’s the story behind that?’ Let me refresh your memory: the boy on the moon in the DreamWorks logo, the mountain in the Paramount logo and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion. You’re wondering comes to an end today. At Top 5’s finest, we delve into these 5 Stories Behind Famous Hollywood Studio Logos! Ready? Well, lets begin! 1. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer: Leo The Lion Leo the lion on MGM has come a long way to be who we know him today. He was designed in 1924 for Samuel Goldwyn’s Picture Corporation in 1924. When Goldwyn merged with Metro Pictures Corporation and Louis B. Mayer pictures, the newly formed MGM retained the logo. The first Lion, Slats, graced the opening of MGM’s silent films in 1924 to 1958. Jackie was the next MGM lion and his growl-roar-growl sequence as played over the phonograph could be heard by the audience. He was also the first lion to appear in Technicolor in 1932. Tanner was the next lion, and was probably the most famous lion of MGM. And that... is all she wrote. 2. DreamWorks: Boy on the Moon Let’s start with what that SKG at the bottom of the DreamWorks logo means. In 1994, Steven Spielberg, Disney Studio chairman, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and record producer, David Geffen, got together to find a new studio called DreamWorks. There was a lot of push and pull between the three before the logo currently used was settled on. Spielberg wanted the logo for DreamWorks to be reminiscent of Hollywood’s golden age. The logo was to be a computer-generated image of a man in the moon fishing. Dennis Muren, the Visual Effects Supervisor of Industrial Light and Magic who had worked with Spielberg on many of his films suggested a hand-painted logo. Robert Hunt, which is Muren’s friend would paint the logo. Hunt then sent an alternative version of the logo that showed a boy on a crescent moon fishing. And that is now the logo that you see in all Dreamworks films. 3. 20th Century Fox: The Searchlight Logo The 20th Century Fox Film Corporation came about in 1935 when Twentieth Century Pictures and Fox Film company merged. Landscape artist, Emil Kosa Jr., is credited with creating the original twentieth century pictures. If you are wondering who Kosa was, he was famous for his matte painting for the statue of Liberty that is showed at the end of the 1968 movie, Planet of the Ape and many other films. After the merger, Kosa replaced ‘Pictures Inc.’ with Fox to make the current logo. Neat huh? 4. Paramount: The Majestic Mountain The Paramount Majestic Mountains logo was first drawn as a doodle by W.W. Hodkinson during a meeting with Adolph Zukor, who was one of the founders of Famous Players FAILM Company that eventually became paramount. It was based on the Ben Lomond Mountain from his childhood in Utah. The first logo was used in 1914 and it is now the oldest surviving logo in Hollywood. The original logo has 24 stars which symbolized paramount’s then 25 contracted movies stars. It’s now 22 stars. It beats me why those stars were reduced though.... Im guessing that it’s a tough business out there. 5. Warner Bros.: The WB Shield Warner Bros. has had quite some history. And yes, it is legally Bros. not brothers. It went through 11 logos for it to settle on the one currently in use. The company was started by four Jewish brothers who emigrated from Poland: Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack Warner. At the start, Warner Bros. had trouble attracting top talent. In 1925, after Sam’s urging, Warner Bros. made the first feature-length “talking pictures”. Harry famously said, “Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?” and that got the ball rolling for the studio to make Warner Bro’s famous. Take a tour on the Backlot Tram Tour from 2004 at the Disney MGM Studios. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/3D5gFc The first incarnation of the Backlot Tour loaded at the former entrance to The Magic of Disney Animation. The original tour was far longer and more elaborate than the final version. The former tour originally drove through New York Street/Streets of America. However, due to the surprise popularity of the park, New York Street was removed from the tour and made into a public walking space within the first few years of operation. It remained open to pedestrians until April 2, 2016 when Streets of America closed. After driving through New York Street, the tram drove to Catastrophe Canyon. After visiting the canyon, guests disembarked at the final tour's exit area. The area where Studio Catering Co. restaurant & the adjacent shop stood until Streets of America closed was originally a break area for guests before embarking on the second half of the Backlot tour. This break area was expanded to include an area for kids to play, called Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Movie Set Adventure. The second half of the tour was a walking tour. It encompassed the water special effects tank, an effects shop, and the existing soundstages along Mickey Avenue and the soundstages that currently house Walt Disney: One Man's Dream and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Guests viewed the soundstages using overhead walkways. Portions of the walkway can still be seen in the park. Most noticeably, by the most recent Backlot Tour entrance and by the former The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow entrance, there are walkway bridges. Just like New York Street, due to the overwhelming popularity of Disney's Hollywood Studios, former Backlot areas were opened up to guests (present day Mickey Avenue & southern Animation Courtyard). Refurbishment Walt Disney's private airplane on display In 2003, Residential Street was walled off from the tour and demolished. The land was used for The Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show. The addition of the stunt show caused the Backlot Tour to be re-routed to go around the large stadium. Small portions of the former residential street were turned into areas for the tour's relocated and downsized boneyard and for the tram roadways. The addition of the stunt show also caused NY Street to lose its arch, as the area was needed for the tour tram to turn around to arrive at the exit station. Overall, the tram portion of the tour was obviously greatly reduced due to the new stunt show. In 2008, Imagineering announced to cast members that an automated narration spiel was in development to replace all the live tour guides on the shuttles portion of the tour. The Special Effects Water Tank continued to have a live cast until the attraction closed due to volunteer guests. The entire attraction went down for two months' refurbishment on 4 January 2009. The ride briefly closed down in February 2010, along with the adjacent Studio Catering Company and Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure. It was the final refurbishment before the attraction closed. This is a complete experience HD POV of Rock n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith at Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney World in Florida formally known as MGM Studios. Video includes line, queue, pre-show, off-ride shots, and POV in Night Vision. Length: 3403' Height: 80' Inversions: 3 Speed: 57 mph Duration: 1:22 G-Force: 5 After winding through a shaded outdoor queue, guests enter the offices and recording studios of record label G-Force Records, whose lobby is decorated with posters of real acts signed to labels owned by The Walt Disney Company. Next, guests are led into a room looking into the recording studio, where the five members of Aerosmith are shown finishing a recording session. The group's manager, portrayed by Illeana Douglas, enters and informs them that they're late for a concert. Lead singer Steven Tyler expresses regret at being forced to leave the band's fans and requests backstage passes for the entire group. The band then departs by limousine to "the Forum" (a reference to a famous Los Angeles concert venue). The harried manager summons a "super stretch" limo, to carry guests to the concert and directs them outside. The pacing of the film is such that there is brief pause between the time that the band mentions to their manager that they should do something for their fans and Steven Tyler agreeing. The interval of time is just long enough that the line "How about some backstage passes" can be shouted from the audience (often by the cast member who is acting as the tour's "host"), making it appear that the band takes the suggestion, which is also echoed by a band mate. Steven Tyler's next line is "Wait a minute, I love that idea. How about some backstage passes?" Guests exit the recording studio and pass through an alley into a parking garage, owned by "Lock 'n' Roll Parking Systems". In here, guests waiting in line can see the ride's launch and sharp-eyed guests can spot the curtains in above 'apartment windows', sway from the 'force', caused by the launch. Guests then board a waiting 24 seat stretch limo for the trip across town to the concert. After loading passengers, the "limo" stops at the entrance to a tunnel. Music is playing and an overhead variable message sign displays a series of several different messages until a countdown. After the countdown, the car is then shot into the tunnel at 57 miles per hour (92 km/h) and the souvenir photo is taken. The roller coaster goes through three inversions, two of which are roll-overs and one of which is a corkscrew on a winding track, intended to represent various Los Angeles Area Freeways, including Interstate 5, Interstate 10 and U.S. Route 101, as evident by the street signs that periodically appear on the side of the coaster. The attraction ends when the limo arrives at Aerosmith's concert backstage, letting guests off onto a red carpet. While considered "extreme", Rock 'n' Roller Coaster has been described by roller coaster enthusiasts as being smoother, less jerky and less uncomfortable than some similar extreme roller coasters.

Disney Hollywood Studios (MGM) Fantasmic Show pt 1

Thanks for watching. Filmed by TheCoasterViews. This is a Complete Experience POV of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios / MGM Studios. Video includes line, queue, pre-show, and POV in HD. Watch in HD. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, more commonly known as Tower of Terror, is a drop tower thrill ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney California Adventure Park, Tokyo DisneySea and Walt Disney Studios Park. It is based upon the television show The Twilight Zone. The original version of the attraction opened at Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios) in July 1994; the California Adventure version opened nearly ten years later in May 2004. The Tokyo DisneySea version—named simply "Tower of Terror" and featuring a modified storyline—opened in September 2006, followed by the Walt Disney Studios Park version in April 2008. The attraction takes place in the fictional Hollywood Tower Hotel (itself inspired by the Hollywood Tower, named a historic landmark by the US Department of the Interior). The story of the hotel, adapted from elements of the television series, includes the hotel being struck by lightning on October 31, 1939, mysteriously transporting an elevator cart full of passengers to the Twilight Zone and causing an entire wing of the building to disappear. The exterior of the attraction resembles an old hotel with a blackened scorch mark across the front of the façade where the lightning struck it. All of the cast members wear a costume that resembles that of a 1930s bellhop. At over USD$1000 per uniform, it is the most expensive costume in the various theme parks. At 199 feet, it is the second tallest attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort, shorter only than Expedition Everest's 199.5 feet . The Tower of Terror is 199 feet high at Walt Disney World because of FAA regulations that require a fixed red light beacon to be added to the top of any 200 feet or taller building. Imagineers thought that the beacon would take away from the hotel's 1939 theme. At the Disneyland Resort, the 199 feet structure is the tallest attraction at the resort, as well as one of the tallest buildings in Anaheim. At Disneyland Paris it is the second tallest attraction, although, when aloft, the Jules Verne-themed "Panoramagique" tethered balloon attraction climbs over 200 feet.

“It’ll always be MGM Studios to me!” It’s a common phrase we often hear from longtime Disney World fans who remember the days when Disney World’s third park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, was called Disney-MGM Studios. But why was that it’s name to begin with, and why did it change? New here? Be sure to subscribe! 🔷https://goo.gl/x17zTL My Disney Podcast! 🎧http://ttapodcast.com Follow me on Twitter! 📱http://www.Twitter.com/RobPlays 🔷New video every week! Disney MGM Studios was born from EPCOT in more ways than one. As the origin story goes, Disney was initially planning to create two new pavilions in Future World. One was going to be about the human body, and would eventually become The Wonders of Live pavilion. The other was going to be a Great Movie Ride pavilion, which would look like a film soundstage, have a movie-theater facade, and focus on, as expected, the film industry. When he saw the idea CEO Michael Eisner felt that there was enough potential in the film pavilion concept that he thought it could act as a centerpiece for a whole third park, which would be themed around the movies. On top of that Eisner was just eager to build and open a third theme park. Disney had seen with the opening of EPCOT in 1982 that average stay length for guests doubled. That meant guests spent more money not just on park entry, but on food and hotels as well. Lastly, Disney wanted to be prepared to take on MCA, who were looking to build a Universal Studios in Orlando to compete with Disney. To that end, a theme park centered around Hollywood would be the perfect foil to MCA’s plans. There was just one problem: Disney’s film library wasn’t as nearly a well rounded as Universal’s was. Sure, Disney was synonymous with classic animation and wholesome family entertainment, but Universal was a Hollywood staple that had films that ranged from classics like Frankenstein, to masterpieces like Hitchcock’s Psycho, to modern action blockbusters like Jaws. Believe it or not, Disney was outmatched. So they decided to turn to another studio to partner with. It would have to be a studio with as much of a celebrated history in Hollywood as Universal. Enter MGM. Disney worked out a contract with MGM in 1985 and it was pretty amazing for Disney. According to “The Disney Touch” by Ron Grover, Disney essentially had free reign of MGM’s film and name rights for the park, and all for almost nothing. The deal had Disney paying MGM $100k a year for first three years and $250k for the fourth year. For every year after that the fee would go up an additional $50k, capping out at a million dollars. So what’s that mean? It means over the full 20 years of the deal, Disney would pay a total of 11.3 million dollars to MGM. Now, to us that’s a lot of money, but to put it in perspective, in 1989 Disney Parks and Resorts made that much money in less than two days. Apparently MGM owner and billionaire Kirk Kerkorian was unaware of the deal with Disney until after it was finalized, and he was not too happy to hear how much Disney was getting for such a low price. So while the deal went through, it started on rocky ground. In fact, before the park even opened, MGM sued Disney, claiming that Disney violated their contract by operating a functional studio at the park donning their name. In turn Disney filed a counter-suit, stating that MGM was violating the contract by planning to open an MGM park in Las Vegas. In 1992 a judge ruled that Disney could continue to produce content at the theme park and use the Disney-MGM name in it. He also ruled that MGM had the right to build a theme park in Las Vegas and use the MGM name and logo, as long as it wasn’t themed after a movie studio like Disney’s park. So, with bad blood between them, a couple of lawsuits, and a licensing deal that Disney was surely not going to get lucky with again, it came as no surprise when Disney decided not to try and renew their agreement towards the end of the 20-year deal. In August of 2007 it was announced that the park would be renamed to Disney’s Hollywood Studios the following year in 2008, 19 years after the park opened. Beyond that, there’s an argument to be made that Disney didn’t really need MGM anymore. In the time since Michael Eisner had stepped in as CEO, Disney’s approach to the film industry had been renewed and rounded out. Disney experienced a renaissance in animation, and new subsidiary studios were producing films that Disney wouldn’t have even considered making in the past. Sure they weren’t Hollywood classics yet, but with the park generally leaning away from the backlot approach anyway, it didn’t seem to matter. Today the park is undergoing even more change, and is expected to see its name replaced once again. Luckily though, as Disney fans, we don’t need eleven million dollars to keep calling it MGM Studios.

Preshow and Full Ride. Plunge down the dark freight elevator shaft of the once glamorous Hollywood Tower Hotel in The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park. Ah, but this is no ordinary hotel. Its phantom elevator is located beyond the fifth dimension, the one that crosses over into The Twilight Zone. The Legend: Classic stars of the silver screen sought rest and relaxation at the grand Hollywood Tower Hotel during the Golden Age of Hollywood. In 1939, during a gloomy Halloween night, 5 unlucky souls were riding down the Hotel's maintenance service elevator when a violent storm struck the building... and they were never seen again. Black scorch marks still scar The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror facade where lightning left its autograph. The Elevator: A ride on the "fright elevator" beyond the eerie boiler room in the hotel basement could be down, then up, or maybe down again, or up and up—every experience is different and randomly selected by the Tower itself. There's no way of knowing which direction you'll go on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Support on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ThemeParkStop Today we're looking at props and hidden mentions of Who Framed Roger Rabbit at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Plus, we're discussing the making of the film and some of the lost attractions we never got at the park. http://orlandoparkstop.com Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ThemeParkStop Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ThemeParkStop Disney's Hollywood Studios opened in 1989, and was originally named the Disney-MGM Studios. Originally an entire land devoted to Roger Rabbit was planned to be added to the park, but the land was never built. Many props and homages to the rabbit can still be seen in the park to this day, including the original stunt car for Benny the Cab. We're taking a look at the history of Roger in the park, what types of rides were originally planned, and how they shot the Benny the Cab scenes for the film.
