-I do not own anything- Songs for Drella is a concept album by Lou Reed and John Cale, both formerly of The Velvet Underground. It was released in 1990 by Sire Records. A live performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, directed by Ed Lachman, was filmed and released on VHS and laserdisc formats. The album is the pair's first collaboration since 1972, and is dedicated to the memory of Andy Warhol, their mentor, who had died unexpectedly in 1987. Drella was a nickname coined by Warhol superstar Ondine for Warhol, a contraction of Dracula and Cinderella, used by Warhol's crowd. ------------------ Style It Takes Words and music: Lou Reed & John Cale You've got the money, I've got the time You want your freedom, make your freedom mine 'Cause I've got the style it takes and money is all that it takes You've got connections and I've got the art You like my attention and I like your looks and I have the style it takes and you know the people it takes Why don't you sit right over there, we'll do a movie portrait I'll turn the camera on and I won't even be there A portrait that moves, you look great I think I'll put the Empire State Building on your wall For 24 hours glowing on your wall Watch the sun rise above it in your room Wallpaper art, a great view I've got a Brillo box and I say it's art It's the same one you can buy at any supermarket 'Cause I've got the style it takes And you've got the people it takes This is a rock group called The Velvet Underground I show movies on them Do you like their sound 'Cause they have a style that grates and I have art to make Let's do a movie here next week We don't have sound but you're so great You don't have to speak You've got the style it takes (kiss) You've got the style it takes (eat) I've got the style it takes (couch) We've got the style it takes (kiss)

A cover of the Lou Reed/John Cale song from Songs for Drella My interpretation of this song is very simple, because my piano skills are rather limited ;-) But it might be inspiring for those who are looking for a simple way to play.

The ActiveMelody.com August 2016 Lesson Challenge was on Lesson EP103 "JJ Cale Style". In preparation for that challenge, I harvested some JJ Cale licks from some of his songs and transposed them to E and adapted them to the lesson. Since it took a while to do that, I thought it would be good to share them with other guitar students.

Discover, a live version of Hallelujah (composed originally by Leonard Cohen) interpreted by John Cale (ex Velvet Underground) You'll find the lyrics below : Now I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah (x4) Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her She tied you To a kitchen chair She broke your throne, and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah You say I took the name in vain I don't even know the name But if I did, well really, what's it to you? There's a blaze of light In every word It doesn't matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though It all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah … Live "Fragments of a Rainy Season" au Palais des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles 1992 Disponible sur / Available on : http://www.fglmusic.com/produit?id=532

[Mono] Mr. Cale is joined by the remainder of the headliners on this eclectic music program from the US for this airing. The list of musicians include Richard Thompson, Shawn Colvin, Tim Berne, B.J. Cole, Jo-El Sonnier and David Sanborn. The arrangement of this, Elvis Presley's only co-composed tune [with Mae Axton, for one] closely follows that which was recorded on the "June 1, 1974" live lp.

Buy All Summer Long at iTunes - http://smarturl.it/AllSummerLongJC John Cale says of the new track, "When writing for Shifty Adventures I noticed an apparent theme of claustrophobic darkness and so of course, I felt at home in that place. There were though a handful of songs unfinished. One in particular was me dreaming about a breeze, space and light. Recalling those early days in my sticky, sweltering NYC flat - how I'd heard summer from the West Coast - thinking how the California landscape informed a vibe that churned out Brian Wilson, Herb Alpert and that strange sexy breeze in your ears. Since the album was predominantly located in the darker, eerie swamps of 'Nookie Wood' , it seemed like the wrong place to put this song, but now, just feels right to let it out..."

From the album 'Music For A New Society' (1982) LYRICS She was a princess, much lower than people thought A master of nothing a mistress of something she thought She could talk about things that never mattered ever From one person's miserable life after another She could talk to the French and Germans at will They'd never listen Calling out her name you'd be surprised at what came Galloping out of the darkness like furniture We'd have lost it all if it hadn't been for Cardinal Richelieu And all his courtiers The chinese envoy was here but left The chinese envoy was here but left in his broken hearted pagoda (Lyrics taken from: http://werksman.home.xs4all.nl/cale/lyrics/music_for_a_new_society.html#chinese_envoy)
