For more detailed Tutorial visit - https://goo.gl/bbvi0C A shell script is a computer program designed to be run by the Unix shell, a command-line interpreter. The various dialects of shell scripts are considered to be scripting languages. A shell usually interprets a single line of input, but we can also create a file containing a number of lines of commands to be interpreted. This file is a program known as a shell script. The program can also contain control structures (if-then, loops). Shell scripts allow a sequence of commands to be executed automatically . BASH scripting lesson 10 working with CSV files

12:03
More videos like this online at http://www.theurbanpenguin.com We now have some more great fun and see how much we can use the shell for; creating reports easily from the command line against CSV files. The script should be quite easy to read now as we use a while loop to read in the CSV file. We change the file delimiter to be the comma and then we have the line that we read in broken up into the schema elements we need. A report then is easy with colours and search ability. This is very usable

Linux Shell Scripting (Writing and Executing a Shell script)

06:32
This tutorial shows how to write and execute a simple shell script. Steps -- 1) Use any text editor to write the shell script 2) Save the file with .sh extension eg. first.sh . 3) Open terminal and go to the folder where you saved the file. 4) To execute the script, type: chmod +x file_name ./file_name 5) To execute the script without setting the execute permission, type: interpreter_name file_name e.g., bash first.sh 6) To execute the script inside the current shell***, type: . file_name (alternatively, type: source file_name) (*** The other two options launch a new shell and execute the commands in it. But sometimes we need to run the script in the present shell.)

Linux Shell Scripting Course: explore the full course on Udemy (special discount included in the link) - https://bit.ly/2DydIFH In this video, Linux Shell Scripting for beginners, you'll learn how to: * Name your shell scripts * Use the proper permissions on your shell scripts * Create and use variables in your scripts And more! -------- Have you tried to learn shell scripting on your own, but lack the structure you need to really improve your skills? Are you tired of picking up bits and pieces of information that you can't just seem to put together? Do you learn best by doing? If so, you're going to love this video and full Udemy course. One of the biggest complaints I hear from students is that most of the courses they've taken in the past simply provide information without any context and without any idea of how to put that information to use! This course turns that old, frustrating, and outdated way of learning on its head. It's project-based, which means instead of learning bits and pieces of information, you'll write actual shell scripts that you can use in real-world situations. You get the chance to immediately put what you learn to use so that you fully understand and remember it. In this Linux shell scripting course you will learn how to: * Name your shell scripts. * Use the proper permissions on your shell scripts. * Create and use variables in your scripts. * Use shell built-in commands and operating system commands. * Make the most out of special variables that are available to you in your scripts. * Make decisions by using if statements and performing several different kinds of tests * Check the exit statuses of commands and why you need to. * Use cryptographic hash functions * Create random data so you can do things like automatically generate strong passwords for user accounts. * Perform the same action or set of actions over a series of data utilizing for loops, while loops, and infinite loops. * Control all types of input and output. * Accept standard input from a user as well as from another program. * Redirect standard output and standard error. * Combine standard output and standard error * Use command pipelining * Perform text and string manipulation. * Process command line arguments * Much, much, more... sh -x script [arg1 ...] bash -x script [arg1 ...] These give you a trace of what is being executed. Using the set Bash built-in you can run in normal mode those portions of the script of which you are sure they are without fault, and display debugging information only for troublesome zones. shell script for checking status of server

14:10
http://www.ciscoarmenia.com/ A shell script is a computer program designed to be run by the Unix shell, a command line interpreter. The various dialects of shell scripts are considered to be scripting languages. Typical operations performed by shell scripts include file manipulation, program execution, and printing text. From ping's man page If ping does not receive any reply packets at all it will exit with code 1. If a packet count and deadline are both specified, and fewer than count packets are received by the time the deadline has arrived, it will also exit with code 1. On other error it exits with code 2. Otherwise it exits with code 0. This makes it possible to use the exit code to see if a host is alive or not.

Export Command in Shell Scripting

02:36
Hi Friends, Export Command The export command is one of the bash shell BUILTIN commands, which means it is part of your shell. Export command marks an environment variable to be exported with any newly forked child processes and thus it allows a child process to inherit all marked variables. Frequently Used Options -p : List of all names that are exported in the current shell -n : Remove names from export list -f : Names are exported as functions Think over the following example: $ Var1=shubhneet.com $ echo $Var1 shubhneet.com $ bash $ echo $Var1 $ Let's define a new variable called "Var1" containing a string "shubhneet.com" Now, Let's echo this command to print out a content of the variable "Var1" Now, Let's create a new child bash shell As you can see now, that variable "Var1" is no longer having any values Like, I said earlier any new child process forked from a parent process by default does not inherit parent's variables. This is where the export command comes handy. $exit $ echo $Var1 shubhneet.com $ export Var1 $ bash $ echo $Var1 shubhneet.com $ First, let's exit from the current child shell. Now, let's echo the variable Var1 to check if it is still there in the parent shell, so it is there. Now, let's use the export command to make the variable "Var1" to be exported when a new child process is created. Now, Let's create a new child bash shell And, Not Let's try to echo this variable in the child shell Gr8 this worked :) In our next video we will study about bash startup. So, Stay tuned and Please Like & Subscribe our channel for future videos. Thank You,
