Lucid Dreaming with Alan Wallace, Stephen LaBerge, Fariba Bogzaran

01:01:10
http://www.scienceandnonduality.com/ A panel with Alan Wallace, Stephen LaBerge, Fariba Bogzaran and moderated by Daniel Deslauriers. What do Eastern and Western philosophy, neuroscience and phenomenology have to say about the experience of lucid dreaming? Can lucid dreaming contribute to how we understand consciousness and the sense of self? Each of the discussants brings a particular inflection to the study of lucid dreaming through their personal experience and professional roles, together combining scientific research, contemplative practices and creative phenomenology. In this dialogue we explore how these disciplines help us to understand the nature of consciousness, in waking and in sleep.

Perception, Dreaming, and Awakening, Stephen LaBerge

36:20
Our dream experiences seem so real to our sleeping minds that it is usually only after we awaken that we recognize our dreams as the mental experiences they are. Happily, there is an important exception: sometimes while dreaming, we become conscious that we are dreaming. This remarkable state of consciousness is referred to as "lucid dreaming" and is learnable and rewarding. Scientific research has proven the objective reality of lucid dreams, and has led to the development of new methods of inducing them. I will provide a brief overview of lucid dreaming, touching on techniques and technology for achieving lucid dreaming; a model of dreaming and waking consciousness; scientific research on mind-body relationships during REM sleep; and several applications of lucid dreaming — exploring consciousness, enhancing creativity, personal development and self-integration, dream yoga, and transcendent experience. Of the many applications and implications of lucid dreaming, the one of greatest, deepest meaning is its potential to stimulate spiritual awakening. Implicit in lucid dreaming is the knowledge that one is dreaming, which is to say, that one is not awake. Yet this is the paradox: as the beginning of wisdom is "to know that one knows nothing," so too, the beginning of awakening is to know that one is not awake. If we suppose we already are awake, as we do in both the dreams we call "false awakenings" and also those we do not call dreams at all, but presumptively term "waking life," how can we even frame the possibility of waking up? We already (believe) we are. Yet as both ancient Eastern spiritual teachings and recent Western psychological science agree, much of ordinary life is lived in such an automatic unconscious manner, that to say that most of us somnambulate through life seems little exaggeration. In the words of Bahauddin Naqshband (d. 1388) "Here we are all of us in a dream caravan. A caravan, but a dream. A dream, but a caravan. And we know which are the dreams. Therein lies the hope." STEPHEN LABERGE, PH.D. Founder of The Lucidity Institute Stephen LaBerge is the first scientist to empirically prove the existence of the phenomena of lucid dreaming. His work has developed this technique into a powerful tool for studying mind-body relationships in the dream state and he has demonstrated the considerable potential for lucid dreaming in the fields of psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine. His book on the subject, Lucid Dreaming, Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming and his more academic Conscious Mind, Sleeping Brain have received enormous popular interest. He is the founder of The Lucidity Institute, an organization that promotes research into lucid dreaming, as well as running courses for the general public on how to achieve a lucid dream.

Lucid Dreaming Presentation

01:44:56
This video documents a presentation by Dr. Stephen LaBerge on lucid dreaming at the symposium on "Sleep, Consciousness and Lucid Dreaming" in Austin, Texas, which occurred on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The symposium explores realms of human life accessible to all of us every day including – as well as apart from – the default mode of “here and now.” We are all conscious beings. We sleep every day – and, apart from our often longing for sleep, we hardly think about it except when it goes wrong. And nowadays, sleep “goes wrong” so often. The symposium starts by taking a more profound look at human sleep, and examines how it goes right, why it goes wrong, and what may be done about this. It then opens the door to a presentation on consciousness, including some of the latest research on this obscure, often taken-for-granted phenomena. Yes, we are conscious, but what does that mean. Our “consciousness” … is it always a consciousness of something? Is it our mode of access? A neurophysiological phenomena? An impenetrable mystery? And, looking at all of this, where does investigating the relationship of mind to brain take us? And what of the remarkable phenomena of lucid dreaming? Lucid dreams are dreams in which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. And furthermore, lucid dreamers can exert a degree of control over the characters, narrative, and environment of these dreams. Can all of us experience such lucid dreams? And furthermore, can we all learn to have these dreams regularly, and even master the actions associated with influencing our own dreams in the directions we desire? In this symposium, three outstanding world-class guest authorities come together in Austin to address these issues: Wallace Mendelson addressed the topic of sleep, Stephen LaBerge lucid dreaming, and David Presti consciousness. Organizers: Robert Abzug, Ph.D. (UT Texas at Austin) Robert J. Barnhart (MAPS/Heffter Research Institute) Marcin Moskalewicz, Ph.D. (Texas A&M/Poznan University of Med. Sciences) Michael A. Schwartz, M.D. (Texas A&M) This Symposium is organized thanks to generous grant from Robert J. Barnhart Contact Email: [email protected] URL: http://www.humanitiesinmedicine.org/consciousness

How to Lucid Dream & Why + My Experience Learning to Lucid Dream

18:22
This video is about how I learned to induce lucid dreaming! *** I answered LOTS of comments below - if you're curious about something, read through my answers in the comments.** Notes for you to keep are in this text box. 1. Remember your dreams & keep a DREAM JOURNAL. - make reminders around your room - don't move: stay in the same position when you wake up - remember all the elements/events of your dream that you can - explore the 5 senses and see what comes back to you - walk back through what happened one event at a time to try and go back as far as you can into the dream's story 2. Read your journal and make note of your DREAM SIGNS - note places, people, feelings, and elements that recur in your dreams - start noticing when you encounter these in real life - create a list of "alternate" dream signs in case your actual list of dream signs doesn't include things you encounter regularly in waking life 3. Do REALITY CHECKS in waking life - when you see a dream sign IRL -- STOP - check your hands - do they look normal? - check a clock - is it displaying properly? - check words/writing/signs - do they stay the same or change? - check gravity - when you jump, do you float down or drop? 4. When you become lucid, STAY IN THE DREAM - focus your attention to ONE thing and keep focused - try spinning or falling to keep dreaming through the "swooping" feeling There is WAY more incredible information and loads of TIPS in Dr. Stephen LaBerge's book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming." Lucid Dream with Dr Stephen LaBerge - 1st Part

15:08
Is Lucid dream for anyone? How did Dr Stephen LaBerge start his journey of lucid dream? What is the real benefit of practicing lucid dream ? Video part 1: Dr. Stephen LaBerge, a world-renowned expert on lucid dreaming, has pioneered the scientific study of the topic. He has had more than 30 years of relevant personal and professional experience, having earned his Ph.D. in Psychophysiology from Stanford University in 1980 for his seminal laboratory research on lucid dreaming. His contributions to lucid dreaming methodology include developing lucid dream induction techniques (e.g., MILD, the counting technique for falling asleep consciously, and the sleep interruption technique (WBTB)), the spinning and hand-rubbing techniques for stabilizing lucid dreams, and various lucid dream induction devices such as the DreamLight and NovaDreamer. His scientific contributions include using eye-movement signals to prove the reality of lucid dreams, characterizing the basic physiology of lucid dreams (and coining the terms DILD and WILD), and showing through a variety of experiments that lucid dream actions affect the brain (and to a lesser extent the body) as-if they were actually happening. Dr. LaBerge’s recent research shows how the phenomenon of lucid dreaming sheds light on the nature of consciousness, viewing consciousness as the dream of what happens, with perception and dreaming essentially differing only by the presence or absence of sensory constraints. Stephen LaBerge Lucid Dreaming (1/10)

08:37
In these videos Stephen LaBerge discusses techniques for becoming lucid in your dreams, how to prolong and maintain lucidity, take control of the dream world, and the science behind why we dream. This seminar was held in 1998, presumably somewhere in Russia, where Stephen used the aid of a translator to communicate with his Russian audience. The original video was posted by damnthisworlds (thanks for the upload) in a 19 part compilation which I have edited down to 10 parts by removing the translations and adding subtitles where needed. I have to the best of my ability and patients (not speaking Russian) deciphered and simplified the questions from the audience and with a good chance of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes put them into text. In the end I think the new videos and the information given by Stephen is more fluent and easier to understand in its entirety. I do not claim any ownership over these videos or the techniques and principles discussed by Stephen LaBerge. If you find this material useful or interesting I encourage you to buy one of LaBerge's books or attend his workshops. How to Lucid Dream with Robert Waggoner, author of Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self

23:43
This is an audio only interview. In this interview Noel Bell speaks to Robert Waggoner author of Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self. The interview took place at the Gateways to the Mind conference on lucid dreams which took place in London in November 2012. The event was held in the grand location of the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington. I started by asking Robert how he came to write his hugely influential book. Robert Waggoner was a speaker at the event and demonstrated how we can all benefit from the non-physical realities. Robert taught himself a simple technique to become consciously aware in the dream state. This took place over 30 years ago. Since then, lucid dreaming, or the ability to become consciously aware while dreaming, has been proven by the pioneering research of Dr Keith Hearne, University of Hull, and Dr. Stephen LaBerge, author of Exploring the World of Lucid Dreams at Stanford University. Many see lucid dreaming as an important psychological and therapeutic tool. In the interview Robert tells us how he became involved in lucid dreaming, what motivated him to write the book and how lucid dreaming can be potentially used as a treatment tool for clients with anxiety or even post traumatic stress disorder. You've been listening to an interview with Robert Waggoner. DREAM YOGA _ LUCID DREAMING _ INSIGHT into the SHADOW : LAMA LODRO, Master Meditator

01:14:45
EVERYONE dreams during sleep. Learning to remember and examine your dreams can improve your Creative Energy, Problem-solving Ability, and Meditations -- and has benefits for your Physical and Emotional Health. . . . *( More info in SHOW MORE )*. DREAM YOGA teaches how to retain a thread of consciousness when falling asleep and when dreaming. DREAM YOGA is one of the Six Yogas of Naropa, brought by Marpa Lotsawa (Marpa the Translator) to Tibet from India a thousand years ago. The Six Yogas of Naropa are timeless classics that continue to be a capstone of Tantric studies for Buddhists, Hindus, and Taoists. LUCID DREAMING teaches how to become aware and more observant inside the dreams during sleep. LUCID DREAMING has many simple and proven methods to help remember and work with your dreams, as described in three reference books written by Dr. Stephen LaBerge (PhD in Psychophysiology). A notable researcher who has advanced the modern science of lucid dreaming, Dr. LaBerge's most recent book is "Lucid Dreaming: A Concise Guide to Awakening in Your Dreams and in Your Life" (2004). CONSCIOUSLY working with dreams that arise during sleep is a powerful tool for helping to access and integrate creative and developmental components of your being which were diverted (usually under pressure from external forces) away from your conciousness and hidden in your inner "Shadow". The Inner SHADOW is an ancient concept which has been upcycled in various forms into some streams of modern psychoanalysis, most particularly in Jungian Analytical Psychology. Dr. CARL JUNG, a pioneer in the early history of modern psychoanalysis, considered the Inner Shadow to be much MORE than just the dark side of our psyches.  Dr. Jung described the Shadow as the "seat of creativity" and the "true spirit of life". He suspected that we as individuals will never feel truly complete until we have reclaimed any enlivening and meaningful facets of our creative being that didn't "fit in" during social development and were banished to the Shadow. This video was recorded during a public Interactive Dharma Dialogue by Lama Karma Tsundulp Lodro (of Yukon, Canada) on 13 April 2017 at the Dharma Centre of Winnipeg in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. ~ Wishing Freedom from Suffering and Bright Blessings for All ~

"It's a very destructive idea - the astral projection notion - that there are entities out there that want to get you and that you've got to get rid of them and protect yourself from them. No. You want to transform the demons into angels. They're messengers... of wholeness, and if you accept them, they transform." After an initial descent to Delta 2hz, the binaural frequencies begin to rise to 7hz Theta after 65 minutes. It's at this point where the gamma frequencies begin to rise and fall. After 90 minutes, the cycle repeats three more times. How Do I Listen? Simply listen through stereo headphones at a low volume as you fall asleep at night. Alternatively, set your alarm for a few hours before you normally wake up and go back to sleep while listening. Do not be discouraged if you fail to experience results right away. With lucid dreaming, the key is persistence and the long term results are more than worth it! If you are new to this subject, check out Stephen Laberge's book The World of Lucid Dreaming, as well as Reece Jones' channel ReeceJones87. He has been inactive for a while but there are a lot of good pointers to get you started. = Amplitude Entrainment Note that the efficacy of Binaural Beats can often be dramatically diminished when combined with musical backdrops, drones, ambient nature sounds etc. This is why in all our tracks we utilise the addition of Amplitude Entrainment (aka Amplitude Modulation) in addition to Binaurals. Amplitude Entrainment involves embedding the frequencies within the background sounds, in this case the drone and rain fx. The faint pulsing effect that you hear is the volume being modulated in sync with the binaural beat frequency. This counteracts the interference which occurs between the binaural carrier frequencies and background sounds, ensuring a more potent and authentic brainwave entrainment experience where the two audible elements can work in tandem instead of clashing. Amplitude entrainment is administered in a way which is not too prominent in the mix, but just loud enough to have a noticeable effect. Stephen LaBerge Lucid Dreaming (2/10)

Stephen LaBerge - Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming (recensione libro)

Sleep, Consciousness, and Lucid Dreaming - Panel Discussion

50:54
This video documents the panel discussion at the symposium on "Sleep, Consciousness and Lucid Dreaming" in Austin, Texas, which occurred on Saturday, May 14, 2016.
