How to enable idle_time parameter for user profiles on Oracle

03:01
Typically, malicious users target the inactive sessions to gain access into the database. By reducing the period of time an inactive session stays connected, the probability of that session being a victim of abuse is reduced. Also, setting up idle_time helps to reduce problems of having too many INACTIVE sessions.

Securing 1,000 Oracle Databases -- Challenges and Solutions

51:33
Oracle Database security checklists and standards are focused on one database, not 1,000 databases. The significant challenge is when you have 100, 500, 1,000, or even 10,000 Oracle Databases in your organization to protect. In order to protect and securely maintain a thousand Oracle Databases requires an enterprise database security framework and database security program. This session will describe how to implement a database security program with all the necessary components to protect the databases in a large enterprise. The database security program will include configuration management, enterprise database user security, periodic access reviews and controls, routine security patching, and an enterprise database auditing strategy.

CALL FORM (calls a modal form). OPEN_FORM (opens a separate, independent form). About Multiple Form Applications: -A multiple-form application is designed to open more than one form module during a single Forms Runtime session. -Every Forms Runtime session begins the same way—with a single form module being loaded into memory. -Once the first form module begins execution, it can programmatically invoke any number of additional form modules, which, in turn, can invoke still other forms. Such modular application development can provide advantages both at design time and during deployment. -When a form module programmatically invokes another, Oracle Forms looks for the new module in the appropriate directory and then loads it into memory. NEW_FORM: -Exits the current form and enters the indicated form. -When a form executes NEW_FORM to invoke another form, Oracle Forms exits the first form and releases its memory, and then loads the new form (i.e., the second form completely replaces the first. If changes are pending in the first form, Oracle Forms will prompt the end user to save them before the new form is loaded. -NEW_FORM is restricted. Code: new_form('E:\FORMS_ALL\MMS_form\MMS_demo\HOMEPAGE.fmx'); CALL_FORM: -When a form executes CALL_FORM to invoke another form, the called form is modal with respect to the calling form. Any windows that belong to the calling form are not usable until the called form is exited and control returns to the calling form. -CALL_FORM is an unrestricted procedure. -CALL_FORM is valid in Enter Query mode, while OPEN_FORM and NEW_FORM are not. -Code: call_form('E:\FORMS_ALL\MMS_form\MMS_demo\HOMEPAGE.fmx'); OPEN_FORM: -When a form executes OPEN_FORM to invoke another form, the first form remains displayed, and end users can navigate between the forms as desired. An opened form can share the same database session as the form from which it was invoked, or it can create a separate session of its own. For most GUI applications, using OPEN_FORM is the preferred way to implement multiple-form functionality. -OPEN_FORM is restricted. Code: open_form('E:\FORMS_ALL\MMS_form\MMS_demo\HOMEPAGE.fmx'); Contact us: email: [email protected] Skype: oracle26solutions Mob: 01734557080, 01627422780

AskTOM Office Hours: SmartDB Separation of Concerns through APIs

58:37
Held on June 19 2018 Should the database be used as a persistence layer only, or a full-fledged processing engine that runs business logic too? We call the latter the #SmartDB approach. Use these sessions to explore with Bryn Llewellyn and Toon Koppelaars the #SmartDB approach for building secure, high performance applications on Oracle Database through PL/SQL APIs. In this session, we asserted that SmartDB means exactly that the only database user(s) for which outside-of-the-database clients know the connect credentials own empty schemas and have no privileges except for the designed set of PL/SQL subprograms that jointly define the database’s API. We classified these API subprograms into two groups: XAPIs—which change data; and QAPIs which only read data. We stressed that each XAPI subprogram must have “commit” as its last ordinary executable statement—and that each must issue rollback if an error occurs. We stressed too that “commit” may be done ONLY in a XAPI subprogram. We went on to discuss the possible use of a TAPI (table API) in pursuit of DRY in the implementation of XAPIs and QAPIs. And we were able to separate the notion of generation (not restricted to juts TAPIs) from the notion of the TAPI itself, as a PL/SQL encapsulation of operations upon a single table. 01:22 Separation of Concerns through APIs by Toon 23:02 Q&A Begins AskTOM Office Hours offers free, monthly training and tips on how to make the most of Oracle Database, from Oracle product managers, developers and evangelists. https://asktom.oracle.com/ Oracle Developers portal: https://developer.oracle.com/ Sign up for an Oracle Cloud trial: https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit music: bensound.com

Dropping a Database via RMAN

01:44
In Oracle Database 10gR1 Oracle introduced the RMAN command DROP DATABSE. This one simple statement has the ability to completely remove a database including all RMAN backups with the optional INCLUDING BACKUPS clause. DROP DATABASE removes all data files, control files, online redo logs. The DROP DATABASE command can optionally delete backups including backup sets, proxy copies, image copies and archive redo logs from the target database from all configured device types. If the target database is connected to a recovery catalog at the time DROP DATABASE is issued the target database will be unregistered as well as drop delete any backups known to catalog. If the command is issued in NOCATALOG mode then any backups known to the catalog will not be dropped but they will not be in the target database control file either. The DROP DATABASE must be executed in RMAN while connected to the target database that is mounted and not open and started in RESTRICT SESSION. Below is a demonstration of the DROP DATABASE command that will drop the database and all backups associated with the database. The Database in the example was not registered with a recovery catalog.

Steps: 1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox 2- Start Porteus Kiosk 4.4 Installation 3- Porteus Kiosk 4.4 Short Review What is Porteus Kiosk? Porteus Kiosk is a lightweight Gentoo-based Linux operating system which has been restricted to allow only use of the web browser. Furthermore, the browser has been locked down to prevent users from tampering with settings or downloading and installing software. When the kiosk boots it automatically opens Firefox or Google Chrome browser to your chosen home page. The history is not kept, no passwords are saved, and many menu items have been disabled for total security. When the browser is restarted, all caches are cleared and it reopens automatically with a clean session to ensure no trace of history is left. Porteus Kiosk Website: http://porteus-kiosk.org/ Porteus Kiosk 4.4 New Features and Improvements Major software upgrades in this release include: Linux kernel 4.9.30, Mozilla Firefox 52.1.2 ESR and Google Chrome 58.0.3029.110. Packages from the userland are upgraded to portage snapshot tagged on 20170526. Online or local webpage can be used as the screensaver. Swap partition has been replaced with more flexible swap file. It is possible to set custom printer name in the system. Added support for hosting SSL certificates directly on Porteus Kiosk Server. Enabled CloudPrinting by default for Porteus Kiosk Cloud/ThinClient variants utilizing Chrome browser. Hope you found it informative and useful. Any questions or comments are welcomed.
