RECOMMEND USING UPDATED "APA Format in Word - in 4 Minutes V2" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZVIa2sTbpM
Format basic APA documents in Word in 4 minutes. Really. This is a visual approach to writing APA in Word. At the end you'll find the steps used, which you can copy or screen print. Created for my college students, but shared in the hope that it helps others.
If you have an earlier version of Word, just look for the same keywords, such as "different first page". Other how-to APA topics, such as citations and references, will appear in subsequent videos.

This video will show you how to set up your paper following correct APA Style guidelines in Microsoft Word 2010 for PC. This specific video focuses on using parenthetical and in-text citations, quotations, and how to properly credit authors to avoid plagiarism.
The steps should be very similar on every version of Word since 2007 for PC. On Word for Mac, I believe the steps are the same, but the interface is different.

Whenever you use a source, you must have an in-text citation and a reference citation. They're a matched pair--like shoes or gloves. What are the differences between an APA in-text citation and an APA reference citation? How do the two work together?
This video explains how to format and coordinate your APA in-text citations with your APA reference citations in the context of a discussion board post. But the same principles for using APA in-text citations applies to anything that you write which cites sources: DB posts, APA research papers, APA PowerPoints, and so on.
APA in-text citations are just an abbreviated form of a reference citation (which is given only once). But APA in-text citations have to be used in every sentence that borrows from a source. But don't worry. There are simple, easy-to-understand tips and tricks for in-text citations that will have you citing perfectly in just a few minutes. In-text citations--the easy way!

On this episode, we discuss how to write and format a paper in APA style, which is most commonly used in scientific writing and social sciences writing in subjects like criminology, anthropology, and psychology.
Specifically, we address the following topics:
What is APA style?
Why do we use APA style?
What are the basic formatting rules? For example, it should be written in 12-point font, be double spaced, and have 1-inch margins all around.
What are some APA abbreviation rules? For example, do not put periods in between letters of abbreviations unless it's a Latin abbreviation or the words U.S. or U.K.
How should I use charts and graphs in APA style? For example, text within charts and figures must be Sans Serif and be between 8 to 14-point font in size.
What should my title page look like? For example, it should include the paper's title, author's name, and institution's name centered and in title case.
What is an abstract and what should it look like? For example, the Abstract paragraph is in 12-point font and is double spaced.
What should in-text citations look like? For example, in-text citations should include the author's last name followed by the year of publication.
How should the references page be formatted? For example, References should be centered at the top, without bold, italics, or underlining.

Guidelines for APA should also be applied to PowerPoint presentations when required. Any use of outside source material must be documented on the PowerPoint slide using APA citation formats from the 6th edition.
Because PowerPoint slides are mainly a visual medium, the presenter must know how APA documents elements such as images, tables, graphs, and other media with titles, notes, and APA parenthetical citations.
APA style and citation formats still apply to PowerPoint slides although the citations are being using in a different medium.

This video covers the basics of how to create a reference list citation for a webpage using APA citation style.
All citations in the reference list should have a ½” hanging indent. If you aren’t sure how to format a hanging indent, please refer to the handouts in the Alverno Library’s Citation Guide which can be accessed through the library’s homepage.
Begin the citation with the author’s name. When citing authors, spell out the last name, followed by the first and (if present) middle initial. And, do not spell out the first or middle name. Also, do not include the authors’ credentials. With webpages, it is very common not to have an author listed. If there is no author associated with the webpage, begin the citation with the title of the webpage.
The next element in the citation is the date. Avoid simply using the copyright date of the website, instead use the date that the webpage was published, last updated, or revised. If multiple dates are provided, use the most recent date on which the content was changed.
Sometimes the date is difficult to find, so you may need to really look for it. Because the web content changes frequently, it is recommended that you list the entire date if it’s provided. The format for the date in this example is correct. List the year, followed by the month, then day. The date is enclosed in parentheses and followed by a period. Do not provide the date that you accessed the webpage. If you are citing a webpage that does not provide a date, use n.d. to indicate no date.
Next is the title, which is not italicized if the webpage that you are citing is part of a larger work. That’s consistent with the APA rule for formatting titles in a reference list. Titles of larger stand-alone works are italicized, but shorter works within are not. When websites consist of multiple webpages, the webpage is considered the smaller work within the website and is not italicized.
The final element of a simple webpage citation is the URL, or Uniform Resource Locator. This is the web address of the page that you are citing. It’s important to always provide accurate and current URLs so your reader can easily locate your source. Copy and paste the URL directly from the browser’s address bar to ensure that the web address is correct.
Notice that there is no mention of the parent website in this citation. That’s consistent with NoodleTools’ recommendation to only provide the name of the website as a whole if it is not clear from the URL. There is no period at the end of the URL and it is not hyperlinked.

This video is based on the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. It explains how to include articles without volume/issue numbers in your Reference List for both print magazines (0:44) and print newspapers (1:17), what to do if there is no author (1:57) or no page number (2:05), and referencing online articles (2:14).
Most articles will have a volume and issue number. In that case, watch our video "APA Style Reference List: How to Reference Journal Articles" http://youtu.be/iJTo2wMEjhg)
The content was created by Crystal Rose, Public Services Librarian, Memorial University Libraries, in partnership with the university's department of Distance Education, Learning & Teaching Support.
