Pilots Reveal 16 Nuances That Make Your Flight Safe

09:47
How to Travel when Flying on a Plane? You’ll get some pretty unexpected and useful insider-knowledge directly from different airline crew members. We'd like to share them with you before you set forth on your next trip! Each profession has its own tricks of the trade that aren’t usually shared with anyone outside the professional circle. Aviation has always been a fascinating and mysterious line of work, and this makes it even more interesting to learn about all the secrets that we aviation outsiders have no idea about. If you’ve never heard of at least one of these facts, hit that “like” button! TIMESTAMPS Pilots are prohibited from having a beard 0:44 It's cold on planes for the sake of your health 1:14 Planes never fly in straight lines 1:46 It's better to wear sturdy shoes on a flight 2:33 Pilots and dispatchers aren’t always formal with each other 3:15 The average person will never manage to land a plane 3:42 Flights delays affect not only passengers but flight attendants as well 4:26 Pilots have to take turns going to the bathroom 4:50 Airplane food is bad, and nobody’s to blame for it 5:27 Comfortable clothes help you stay healthy 6:14 Pilots communicate with flight attendants through a bulletproof door 6:38 The smoothest place to sit is over or near the wing 7:28 There’s a secret signal if the plane has been hijacked 7:56 A hard landing is sometimes done on purpose 8:14 Cabin lights are dimmed during a nighttime landing for a reason 8:50 There’s only 15 minutes worth of oxygen in the masks 9:15 SUMMARY - Some airlines forbid their pilots from having beards. The reasoning behind this is that a beard can prevent an oxygen mask from securing to the face tightly in the event of an emergency situation. - If the air in the cabin is too warm, it can trigger this problem, so that's why the air temperature is kept cool. - Why curved lines? That’s because the Earth is round, but the map on the screen is flat. But what’s the zigzagging all about? That’s due to special flight regulations requiring pilots to stick to certain routes in order to have enough time to reach an airport in case of an emergency landing. - Take it from experienced flight crews from around the world: they beg you to leave your backless sandals and high heels at home and go for sturdier shoes. - There’s a tradition that dispatchers congratulate pilots on all holidays. Just imagine: around Christmas time, a pilot can have up to 4 flights a day, which means about 2,000 people wishing them a Merry Christmas. - Even if someone is a genius, hooked on realistic flight simulators, or ready and willing to follow all the instructions from ground control, he’s still likely to fail due to one simple thing: stress! - Flight attendants are paid only for in-flight hours. Time spent on the ground doesn’t count. The only thing that airlines offer is a small allowance for every hour spent at the airport. - When one pilot needs to use the restroom, a flight attendant must join the other pilot in the cockpit and wait until the first one returns from his bathroom break. - Tasteless airplane food is nobody’s fault but science. At high altitudes, our taste buds and sense of smell can play tricks on us. - When on a plane, go for comfortable clothes with breathable fabrics. It’ll help you tremendously when you’re trying to fall asleep. - Did you know that the door to the cockpit is bulletproof? It’s true! It’s designed to stop bullets and even small grenades. - The freshest air is near the front of the plane, and the warmest temperature in the back. - Pilots give a special signal to the airport when they’re landing: they leave the plane’s wing flaps up. It’s one of the ways to show that there’s something bad happening on the plane. - When you experience a hard landing in bad weather, it doesn’t mean that the pilot is a newbie or lacks the know-how. In fact, sometimes they do it intentionally. - Dimming the cabin lights helps passengers’ eyes adjust from the bright light of the cabin to the dim nighttime light on the ground. - There’s only enough oxygen in the masks for just a quarter of an hour, but you shouldn't panic. This is plenty of time for the pilot to take the plane to a lower altitude where you can breathe normally. Which psychedelic is recommended for a beginner? What dose should you take? And what can you expect to get out of the experience? While I can't personally recommend that ANYONE tries any substance, what I can do is explain how to go about your experience in a safe and cautious way so you don't end up hurting yourself or worse. PLEASE NOTE: This video has been created for education and harm reduction. We do not personally promote any 'use' nor do we want anyone to get the wrong idea and mistakenly believe that we do. These videos exist to help people be safe through properly educating them on safe use and on potential dangers. We also explain to the viewer what can happen when you are careless (and just how severe the consequences can be) with hopes they do not make the same mistakes them selves. Thank you! English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip

07:08
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

Seychelles: 10 Tips to Plan Your Trip Better

02:42
AJAY JAIN Planning a trip to the Seychelles? Here are 10 tips that may come in handy: #1 Getting There Located in the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles are served by their national carrier and only a few other airlines. It may take an extra hop or two, but you get there. #2 Visa on Arrival - and it’s FREE Finally a country has the sense to offer visa on arrival, and not charge any fee. I still can’t figure why countries charge high amounts for visas - the money saved is likely to be spent in the country anyway and would encourage more travellers. #3 Currency The local currency is the Seychelles Rupee, and pegged at about 13 Rupees to a US dollar. The exchange rate is more or less no matter where you change money. However, US Dollars and Euros widely accepted everywhere. #4 Getting Around Taxis can be a little expensive, but you can rent cars starting at about 40 Euros a day. You also have the options to rent motorcycles, bicycles, boats and even an ox cart. There are limited public buses on main islands like Mahe. #5 Accommodation There is an option for all budgets - especially those looking at mid to luxury segments. Pick up a self-catering apartment or villa starting at a hundred Euros usually. #6 Plan Activities There are a wide range of activities that you can book with local operators, even at the last minute. Prices are quite similar, and most offer a high quality of service. #7 Pack for Summers Temperatures range from 30-32 C (86-90 F) all year round, so pack accordingly. It can be quite humid - you may want to shower more than once a day. Do carry sun protection, hats, shades etc. at all times. #8 Buy local SIM for data and calls Pick one when you land to stay connected through your stay. #9 Don’t Worry About Safety Crime and thefts are almost unknown in Seychelles - you will rarely see any cops around. You will always feel safe there. #10 Enjoy the Food Seychelles are a delight for foodies - there is something for everyone. And usually with views of the seas and mountains while you eat.

This island off the coast of India has long been on my bucket-list for loads of reasons, like having the best safari outside of Africa, boasting eight UNESCO World Heritage sites to explore, and lots of lovely, gorgeous beaches complete with idyllic white sand and crystal clear water that's perfect for surfing. In fact, for an island about a ¼ of the size of the UK, there's loads to see and do, depending,  of course, on what you want out of your trip. Coming up, I'm going to tell you about getting here, some tips on transport, then some stuff on food, money and language and some awesome places to visit. So, let's get on with it… We flew 10 hours direct from Heathrow to Colombo, which is Sri Lanka’s capital city. Flights arrive at Bandaranaike International airport, which is 30km north of the city. Taxis are very cheap in Sri Lanka, and this can be the easiest, and certainly quickest way to reach your destination from the airport. If you’re heading straight into Colombo you can catch the express bus which takes about 25 minutes, but to be honest the taxis are so cheap it’s a no-brainer. To enter the country, you’re gonna need a visa. Now this can be done when you get here, but, after ten hours in the air ..why bother with the extra admin!? Get it done before you leave. Applications cost $35 and take around 24 hours to process. Also, you’re gonna need to make sure that your vaccinations are up to date, like your tetanus and typhoid. Check with your GP beforehand. What do you need to know about public transport in Sri Lanka? Well, in all honesty, quite a bit… Public transport conditions aren't great, but are popular with locals as it's very cheap. Buses tend to leave when they’re full, so for anyone on a schedule we’d give them a miss. Also, trains are often slower and less efficient than simply getting a taxi. My advice: take anything described as luxury or express with a generous pinch of salt. The key thing in Sri Lanka is that your money goes a long way, for example our two-hour taxi  from Colombo to Unawatuna cost 9000 rupees, which is about 40 quid, so for this reason we made the most of getting around with private car hire and tuk-tuks. Hiring a driver to chauffeur you around is surprisingly affordable and, let's face it, way more luxurious! It's also a big timesaver which is a massive a bonus. The roads are in surprisingly good condition... ...just watch out for the tourists, the cyclists, the buffalo, stray dogs, and massive lizards they all make it a little hair-raising at times. We used Uber to navigate Colombo and Red Cabs for everywhere else. Failing that you could always haggle for a tuk tuk, which are ideal for quick journeys. There are a couple of things you need to know before you start off. Number 1 always agree the price before settings off and number 2 be direct about where you want to go, don’t settle for any detours or any other places they might want to take you. Anyway, up next, here are some of my favourite things to do in Sri Lanka. Unawatuna is loved by locals and tourists alike, and with palm trees, white sands and blue waters, it's easy to see why it’s one of Sri Lanka’s most popular beaches. Right behind the beach is a small shopping strip for souvenirs and restaurants... … And Ladies, going topless on the beach is a definite no-no, and if you're a couple, make the P in PDA stand for PRIVATE, not PUBLIC. OK, Newsflash!!! Sri Lanka has the best safari outside of Africa since the country has one of the highest rates of indigenous plants and animals in the world. Udawalawe National Park is a personal highlight of mine and home to some 200 different species.

8 Tips for Safe Solo Travel

02:05
Despite much buzz around the solo travel trend, 30.4 percent of Americans say they have never traveled alone. And those who have are more than five times as likely to travel domestically than internationally, according to a new survey conducted by Allianz Global Assistance. More than a quarter (27.5 percent) of Americans have traveled alone for business domestically and 21 percent for leisure, while only 3.2 percent have solo traveled internationally for business and 4.8 percent for leisure. Women are ten percent less likely to travel alone than men, with 35.2 percent noting they have never traveled alone, compared to 25.2 percent of men. Gender also appears to impact solo travelers’ perception of safety, with 76.6 percent of men saying they have never felt unsafe while traveling alone, while 60.3 percent of women say the same. Almost 40 percent of women (38.9 percent) have been catcalled while traveling alone, compared to 11.6 percent of men. However, solo male travelers seem more susceptible to theft, with almost ten percent (9.7 percent) reporting having been mugged or pickpocketed (versus 6.1 percent of women). More than a quarter of Americans (25.6 percent) say they have been overcharged or ripped off while traveling alone. The security and safety of accommodations is top-of-mind for all solo travelers, with 26.6 percent of Americans listing it as the factor they are most concerned about when traveling alone. The remaining factors of concern vary significantly between male and female respondents. The next most pressing concerns for male travelers include: violence/terrorism (17.8 percent), a natural disaster (17.8 percent), being out after dark (14.8 percent), riding public transportation (10 percent), security/safety of drivers (6.9 percent) and visiting a restaurant/bar (also 6.9 percent). Being out after dark is the second most concern for women (26.3 percent), followed by violence/terrorism (15.7 percent), natural disaster (9.6 percent percent) riding public transportation (9.4 percent), security/safety of drivers (7.8 percent) and visiting a restaurant/bar (3.7 percent). Nearly sixty percent (59.9 percent) of women avoid walking at night to keep themselves safe while traveling alone, while 47 percent inform others of their location. Avoiding conversations with strangers (32.8 percent), dressing in a way that won’t draw attention (30 percent), moderating alcohol consumption (27 percent) and steering clear of busy tourist areas (14 percent) are other methods used for safety, while the survey found that 18.9 percent of women use none of these. Over a third (34.1 percent) of male solo travelers don’t use any of these tactics, while 34.9 percent avoid walking at night, 22 percent inform others of their location, 16.9 percent dress in a way that won’t draw attention, 16.7 percent avoid talking to strangers, 16.1 percent moderate alcohol consumption and 8.4 percent avoid busy tourist areas. How to travel with SCD yogurt and perishable food - Safe Trip!

07:48
If you have a weeklong conference or vacation out of town, you can travel with meals that are frozen ahead of time. Portion them into snack bags, ziplock bags, and small deli counter containers. Large containers will pop and won't fit in a hotel fridge. Wrap everything with plastic wrap, tape, and large zip lock bags. Layer the frozen foods around the fresh yogurt, and it will stay cold until you arrive. For bringing yogurt onto your flight as a travel meal, try making your yogurt with half-and-half milk so it yields a thicker batch. Fill a clear travel container to 3/4 with yogurt. Add honey and toppings until the top. This will make the yogurt seem like a solid meal rather than a liquid, and possibly pass security. Comment if this worked for you!
Travel Reminder: Secure Your Loaded Cargo

02:01
It’s that time of year when the roads will be full of motorists heading up to the cabin for one last summer blast and college students are packing up, hitting the road for school. Securing your load as you travel to your destination is a must! Losing objects from your vehicle can cause serious or fatal injuries to innocent drivers behind you. To help save lives and keep our roads safe, take just a few minutes to watch our latest video on how to properly secure your load and prepare for the road.

Don't be disrespectful at the Nazi concentration camps and memorials around the country. 6. Don't Wait: when at restaurants or bars order as soon as you can as waiters do not come through to check on tables as often as they do in other countries. 7. Don't Experiment on Driving on the Autobahn. It can be very dangerous for first time drivers. 8. Don't Expect to Shop on Sundays in Germany. 9. Don't forget to bring cash. Take the right precautions before you go to ensure you'll have a great time once you arrive. Step 1: Visit the U.S. State Department website If you are American, visit the State Department website to learn about travel safety issues in Venezuela. Foreigners can be vulnerable to crime even upon arrival at the airport. Register at the State Department's travel registration website. This easily allows the State Department to assist United States citizens in an emergency. Tip Some Americans have been turned back at the airport due to passports expiring within six months of their arrival date. Step 2: Be cautious when traveling from the airport Be cautious when traveling from the airport. Traffic in Caracas is difficult to navigate at all hours. Tip If you choose to rent a car, make arrangements with an international car rental company before you leave. Step 3: Visit travel websites Visit travel websites for hotel recommendations. Foreigners and tourists tend to stay in Chacao and the section of Chacao known as Altamira, where many of the nicest hotels are located. Step 4: Carry as little U.S. currency as possible Carry as little U.S. currency as possible. Find a currency exchange house recommended by your hotel. Tip You risk arrest if you exchange dollars with "street" money changers. Step 5: Walk the city in a group Explore the city with a group if you can, even when visiting major tourist attractions like El Avila Park. Be aware that petty theft is commonplace, especially after dark, so stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Step 6: Take licensed taxis for transportation Ask hotels and restaurants to contact licensed taxis for your nightlife transportation. Do not flag down a taxi off the street. Put common sense into practice for a safe trip. Did You Know? The world's highest waterfall, Angel Falls, near Caracas, was named after American pilot Jimmy Angel who landed at the falls' summit.

How To Plan A Trip

HOW TO PLAN A TRIP the next time you are travelling. This video will take you on a step by step process of planning your trip. This is to assure that you can achieve a safe trip. Once you have decided that you want to take a trip and have figured out where you want to go. There are the usual steps that we all tend to take when we are planning our trips. First we decide on the destination that we would like to visit and the reason for our trip. Next based on what our purpose is for the trip, we start to look at the amenities and activities that are close to our travel plans. Then we take a look at the accommodations that are within our budget. And although this is a logical way of planning your trip, this may be a backward way of planning your next trip. Due to the ever-changing travel advisories occurring throughout the world at any given time, in any given location, we need to pay attention to those advisories, because they could have a huge impact on our travel plans. Here may be the better way of how to plan a trip. 1. Determine where you will be taking that next trip. Also what you want to get out of that trip. Could be for business, relaxation, extreme sports, adventure, sight seeing. Whatever your reason, create your wish list. 2. Check the Travel Advisory notices on your countries website, to see if there are any advisories noted or suggested for this location. 3. Review your Travel insurance policy and make sure that it will cover you for this location and for the activities that you want to achieve. Note that some policies will not cover you if you travel to a location where there is a travel advisory. And most policies will not cover you if you partake in any extreme sporting activities. 4. Write down the emergency numbers for the country/location you will be staying. Remember not all countries or regions have the same emergency number. Good idea to have an idea of the hospital or medical centres in the area... Just in case. Language is another concern if your travel takes you to a place where they may not speak your language. 5. Book your trip with confidence and have fun. This would be a very good way on how to choose a travel destination and how to plan a trip.
