India - Mumbai Bandra Worli Sea Link Architecture (BWSL)

09:58
The Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) (Marathi: वांद्रे वरळी सागरी सेतू), officially the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, (Marathi: राजीव गांधी सागरी सेतू), is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete viaduct approaches, which links Bandra and the western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli and central Mumbai, and is the first phase of the proposed West Island Freeway system. The Rs. 1600 crore ($ 400 million approx.) project of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) was executed by Hindustan Construction Company, with design and project management by DAR Consultants. The bridge was dedicated to the public on 30 June 2009 by Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, although only 4 of 8 lanes are in service. The Sea Link reduces travel time between Bandra and Worli from 4560 minutes to 7 minutes. The link has an average daily traffic of around 37,500 vehicles per day, about half the pre-opening estimate of 70,000 The Bandra Worli Sea link project is a part of the Western Freeway Sea Project, which, in turn, is a part of a larger proposal to upgrade the road transportation network of greater Mumbai. It is primarily meant to provide an alternative to the Mahim Causeway route that is presently the only connection between South Mumbai and the Western and Central suburbs. The project starts from the intersection of Western Express Highway and SV Road at the Bandra end, and connects it to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road (Worli Seaface) at the Worli end which in turn connects to Mumbai's arterial Annie Besant Road at the Narayan Pujari Nagar corner. The MSRDC has previously planned to open the remaining four lanes of the sea link by March 2010. However, the gruesome accidents taking place in a short span of time has altered the decision and the remaining lanes are expected to be in operation by the end of January 2010. The project has been commissioned by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd (MSRDC), designed by DAR Consultants and is being built by Hindustan Construction Company The entire project was originally conceived as one large project comprising, different components, but in order to accelerate the overall construction schedule, the project has been divided into five construction packages. These packages helped, to an extent, to make the project meet its deadline. Package I: Construction of flyover over Love Grove junction at Worli Package II: Construction of cloverleaf interchange at Mahim intersection Package III: Construction of solid approach road from the Mahim intersection up to the start of the Toll Plaza on the Bandra side and a public promenade Package IV: Construction of Cable-Stayed Bridges together with viaduct approaches extending from Worli up to the Toll Plaza at Bandra end, Intelligent Bridge System (IBS). Package V: Improvement to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road Package IV is the largest and main phase of Bandra-Worli Sea Link Project that has been awarded to HCC that includes cable-stayed bridge, viaduct approaches extending from Worli up to Toll Plaza at Bandra end and Modern Toll Plaza Before undertaking the construction, there were several major challenges to be addressed namely The foundations of the bridge included 604 large diameter shafts drilled to lengths of 6m to 34m in geotechnical conditions that varied from highly weathered volcanic material to massive high strength rocks. The superstructure of the approach bridges were the heaviest spans in the country to be built with span-by-span method using overhead gantry through a series of vertical and horizontal curves. A one-of-its-kind, diamond shaped 128m high concrete tower with flaring lower legs, converging upper legs, unified tower head housing the stays and a throughout varying cross section along the height of tower. Erection of 20000 MT Bandra cable-stayed deck supported on stay cables within a very close tolerance of deviations in plan and elevation.

Bandra Worli Sea Link Full ride HD Video May 2014 Mumbai Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link Alertcitizen

10:47
The Bandra--Worli Sea Link, officially called Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side that links Bandra in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai with Worli in South Mumbai. The bridge is a part of the proposed Western Freeway that will link the Western Suburbs to Nariman Point in Mumbai's main business district. The 16 billion (US$270 million) bridge was commissioned by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), and built by the Hindustan Construction Company. The first four of the eight lanes of the bridge were opened to the public on 30 June 2009. All eight lanes were opened on 24 March 2010. The sea-link reduces travel time between Bandra and Worli during peak hours from 60--90 minutes to 20--30 minutes. As of October 2009, BWSL had an average daily traffic of around 37,500 vehicles. Mahim Causeway was the only road connecting the western suburbs to Mumbai's central business district. This north-southwestern corridor became a bottleneck and was highly congested at peak hours. The Western Freeway project was proposed to span the entire western coastline of Mumbai to ease congestion. The Bandra--Worli Sea-Link, a bridge over Mahim Bay, was proposed as the first phase of this freeway system, offering an alternative route to the Mahim Causeway. The sea-link connects the intersection of the Western Express Highway and Swami Vivekanand Road in Bandra to the Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Road in Worli. From Worli Seaface, it connects to Mumbai's arterial Annie Besant Road. The project was commissioned by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC). The contract for construction was awarded to the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), with project management led by the UK offices of Dar Al-Handasah, with significant technology transfer from China. The foundation stone was laid in 1999 by Bal Thackeray. The original plan estimated the cost at 6.6 billion (US$110 million) to be completed in five years. But the project was subject to numerous public interest litigations, with the 5-year delay resulting in the cost escalating to 16 billion (US$270 million), with the additional interest cost alone accounting for 7 billion (US$120 million). BWSL was named in the memory of late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Watch: Man Attempts Suicide on Bandra Worli Sea-Link, Rescued

02:03
An alert toll booth operator was able to foil a suicide bid in the wee hours of Wednesday after spotting a man climb over the railing of Bandra worli sea-link at 3.10 am to jump into the sea. According to MEP officials, taxi (MH 01 BD 3096) stopped near P-60 towards the Worli side. The passenger got down and crossed the railing. A vigilant MEP Surveillance Executive Sagar Jagtap immediately informed the Shift Incharge Santosh Sargar who sent Helper Chetan Kadam to the spot to distract the man who was attempting suicide. Meanwhile they informed the Mumbai Police. Chetan kept the passenger engaged by talking to him and slowly moved towards him for as long as 25 minutes. "When he was close to the passenger he quickly held him and pulled him over the railing with the help of other staff members," an official from MEP said. The MEP officials handed the man over to the Worli police who later released him after counselling. ——————————————————————————————— Subscribe for more videos: http://goo.gl/RjJrX0 Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/indianexpress Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/indianexpress Download the Indian Express app at http://indianexpress.com/apps/ Watch more videos at http://www.indianexpress.com/videos

Mumbai Coastal Road Gets Approval From Center - Mumbai Coastal Road Projects

07:42
The proposed Mumbai coastal road project has finally been approved by the Central government. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, tweeted last week - “Good news! Mumbai #CoastalRoad gets final environmental approval from the Central Govt.” The ₹ 15,000 crore, project will be an eight lane 29 km road along Mumbai’s coast connecting Nariman Point in south Mumbai and Kandivali in the western suburbs. The stretch will consist of undersea tunnel, elevated roads and bridges. The project is expected to begin later this year and is likely to continue for about 48 months. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation got the clearance six years later after it was first proposed, which was stuck due environmental concerns and livelihood of fishermen. The project will be built in two phases by BMC – the first phase will be a 9.98 km stretch from Marine Drive to the existing Bandra-Worli Sea Link and expected to complete by 2019. It will start with a tunnel at Chowpatty which will link to Priyadarshini park, after that it will pass through Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The phase will consist of four interchanges at Amarsons Garden at Breach Candy, Haji Ali, Worli and Bandra. The second phase will cover 19.22 km road connecting the Bandra end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Kandivali. Work on second phase will begin after completion of first phase which will also include the 9.5 km Bandra-Versova Sea Link. The approximate cost for the two phases will be ₹ 5,300 and ₹ 9,800 crore respectively. A further extension of the road up to Ahmedabad has also been proposed. As many as 11 companies have submitted quotation for the project. BMC is planning to shortlist bidders by end of June and work is expected to begin after monsoon. The coastal road will reduce commute time 70% on the southern section which in turn will reduce carbon emission. India's Next Milestone : Bandra Worli Sea Link, Mumbai

10:50
Thanks for watching Bandra Worli Sea Link, Mumbai India's Next Milestone : Bandra Worli Sea Link, Mumbai This video describes the details of Bandra Worli Sea Link, Mumbai Officially known as Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, this eight-lane cable-stayed bridge in Mumbai is the first project initiated by Maharashtra Government that commences West Island Freeway System. Bandra Worli Sea Link is one of the few bridges that is a cable-stayed with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts to hold it in place. Spanning across the arc of Mumbai's coastline, this sea link is a civil engineering wonder that reflects the modern infrastructure of the city of Mumbai. The bridge is designed to cater around 37,500 vehicles per day while reducing the time travel between Bandra and Worli by a big margin. The beauty of the Bandra Worli Sea Link is in its engineering genius which gently compliments the crystal waters it is built over. Overlooking the magnificent blue waters of Mahim Bay, this splendid architecture is a mighty sight to behold.  Undeniably, the Bandra Worli Sea Link is an amalgam of natural beauty and man-made marvel. Roll your windows down as you whizz past the bridge and let the salty sea breeze run through your hair. The spectacle of Mumbai is especially appealing from the elevation of the bridge and makes it the perfect destination to capture a few candid shots of the city in all its glory. Bandra Worli Sea Link also overlooks the Worli Bridge and has a small park located nearby. The beauty of this attraction is enhanced during the night when twinkling lights adorn the bridge. History of Bandra Worli Sea Link Before the Bandra Worli Sea Link was built, Mahim Causeway was the only road connecting the western suburbs to Mumbai's central business district. This led to the north-southwestern corridor becoming highly congested during peak hours. To solve this problem, the Western Freeway project was conceptualized and the Bandra Worli Sea Link was the first phase of the project aimed at providing an alternative route to the Mahim Causeway.  The foundation stone of the bridge was laid down in the year 1999 by Bal Thackrey. The estimated cost of the project was INR 6.6 billion and was supposed to be completed in a time period of five years. However, the project lost its momentum when it was subjected to numerous public interest litigations. A five-year delay ensued which increased the cost of the bridge to INR 16 billion. The Bandra Worli Sea Link saw completion in the year 2009 - 2010. Architecture of Bandra Worli Sea Link Bandra Worli Sea Link is one of the modern architectural spectacles of India which was built by Hindustan Construction Company, a project initiated by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). This architectural marvel was built by a joint effort of engineers from India, Egypt, China, Canada, Switzerland, Britain, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Serbia. Interestingly, Bandra Worli Sea Link was the first cable-stayed bridge to have been constructed over the open Indian seas.  Opened for the public in June 2009, this link comprises of pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side, which are heaviest precast segments to be built in India. Due to the geology of the seabed, the pylon towers used in the bridge have a unique and complex geometry while the main span of the structure is the longest concrete deck to have been attempted successfully. The largest pylon to have been used here measures at 128 metres with gradually decreasing heights as we move away. The Bandra Worli Sea Link is the first project in Mumbai which has been constructed using seismic arresters, making it resistant to earthquakes measuring up to 7.0 on the Richter scale.  Subscribe my channel : goo.gl/abNrdS Facebook : https://goo.gl/1FZKfY Facebook Page : https://goo.gl/7c9RAq Twitter. : https://goo.gl/T7FUBX Instagram : https://goo.gl/T1JFKd Google+. : https://goo.gl/zLSwCk Blog. : www.futureuniverse.in My Mobile Amazon : http://amzn.to/2ipoe9m Flipkart :. http://fkrt.it/vXgKF!NNNN My Laptop Amazon : http://amzn.to/2gD5MpB

This world-class bridge is a part of the Western Freeway that will link the Western Suburbs to Nariman Point in Mumbai's main business district. This bridge is also known as Rajiv Gandhi sea link. This cable-stayed bridge in Mumbai is 5.6 Kms long and reduces travel time between Bandra and Worli during peak hours from 20-30 minutes to 10 minutes. The view of this bridge will be eye-catching with the lightings in the night. The buildings on the side of the bridge simply illustrate the wealth of Mumbai. There are restrictions to stop and sightseeing in the middle of the bridge. We crossed this bridge three times to shoot this video. We missed the night view due to lack of time for us in Mumbai.
