Because of its extremely high salt content, no animal or plant life can survive in the Dead Sea. So why do tourists from around the world flock to bathe in its deep blue waters? Clarissa Ward takes us on a trip to this exotic and unique destination.

INSIDER'S A.C. Fowler heads to the Dead Sea in Israel. Is it worth the trip and a bucket list must, or is it a total travel nightmare? A.C. will rate it on how crowded it is, if the mud bath works, and how well you can float in the salty Dead Sea. The Dead Sea in Israel is actually not a sea. It's a lake, and it's bordered by Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan. It's fed by the Jordan River in the north. It's called "dead" because no life can be sustained in the water because of its high salt content. At 10 times more than any other sea in the world, the high salt content means you can't sink in the water. About 1.74 million tourists and locals visit the Dead Sea a year. Spring and fall are usually the best times of the year to visit the Dead Sea due to the milder weather. The average temperature near the Dead Sea is about 80 °F (26.6 °C). At the Dead Sea, there are natural mud deposits, and the mud is supposed to be really good for your skin. The same minerals in the mud are also in the water. Dermatologist Marisa Garshick explains that it's not just the quantity of the salt in the Dead Sea, but it's actually the type of salt that is found. The Dead Sea has a lot of magnesium, bromide, calcium, and potassium, and these elements may have true benefits for the skin. ------------------------------------------------------ #Israel #DeadSea #INSIDER INSIDER is great journalism about what passionate people actually want to know. BGU researchers have today that they have discovered deep springs on the floor of the Dead Sea, which provide fresh water to the rapidly dwindling lake. Meanwhile, a parallel study by German researchers has found new forms of life growing around the fissures in the sea floor. The Dead Sea is shrinking as the water level drops at an alarming rate -- about a meter a year. Israeli and German scientists have been researching groundwater springs which discharge from the sea floor to understand the impact of this process on this unique ecosystem. While the existence of springs has been known for decades as people observed ripples on the surface, the scientists have discovered deep springs not visible from shore.

Please Rate Comment and Thumbs Up! Extended Version of the First Video "Flotation Devices The dead Sea" This Video was Filmed during our 14 day Holy Land cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette. The Ship parks in the Port City of Ashdod which is just outside of Tel-aviv Israel. From there we hailed a cab to drive us 2 hours to the Dead Sea. The City of Jerusalem is situated up on top of a mountains area. As you come down the mountains heading towards the Dead Sea you will see people living among the desert in shanty shack looking houses with fires burning and skinny domesticated animals. The cab driver said they had been living there for generations. As we started to come down the last part there were elevation signs telling us we were going below sea level. The Air temperature also got warmer and more humid. The Valley floor was around 82 Degrees F. in mid November. There was a private beach Located on the Dead sea which has a bar, indoor and outdoor showers, The temperature in Jerusalem was probably in the mid 60s. On our way back at night is was even a bit cooler. The dead sea is not actually a Sea because it doesn't connect with the rest of the ocean. The river Jordan empties into the hyper saline lake generations of rain water have dissolved minerals from the surrounding mountains only to settle on in the dead sea. However it seems like the Dead Sea may be getting smaller and smaller based on the structures built near the shore. We were advised to not shave before going because the salty water will burn any open cuts or sensitive skin. If you do have any open cuts you will find them once you enter the water. The Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַמֶּלַח, Yam ha-Melah, "Sea of Salt", also Hebrew: יָם הַמָּוֶת, Yam ha-Mavet, "The Sea of Death", and Arabic: البحر الميت About this sound Al-Bahr al-Mayyit (help·info)), also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west. Its surface and shores are 429 metres (1,407 ft) below sea level, Earth's lowest elevation on land. The Dead Sea is 304 m (997 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With 34.2% salinity (in 2011), it is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean, and one of the world's saltiest bodies of water. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which plants and animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 50 kilometers (31 mi) long and 15 kilometers (9 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley and its main tributary is the Jordan River. The Dead Sea water has a density of 1.24 kg/liter, which makes swimming similar to floating. Biblical period- Dwelling in caves near the Dead Sea is recorded in the Hebrew Bible as having taken place before the Israelites came to Canaan, and extensively at the time of King David. Just northwest of the Dead Sea is Jericho. Somewhere, perhaps on the southeastern shore, would be the cities mentioned in the Book of Genesis which were said to have been destroyed in the time of Abraham: Sodom and Gomorra (Genesis 18) and the three other "Cities of the Plain", Admah, Zeboim and Zoar (Deuteronomy 29:23). Zoar escaped destruction when Abraham's nephew Lot escaped to Zoar from Sodom (Genesis 19:21-22). Before the destruction, the Dead Sea was a valley full of natural tar pits, which was called the vale of Siddim. King David was said to have hidden from Saul at Ein Gedi nearby. In Ezekiel 47:8-9 there is a specific prophecy that the sea will ".. be healed and made fresh", becoming a normal lake capable of supporting marine life. A similar prophecy is stated in Zechariah 14:8, which says that "Living waters will go out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea (likely the Dead Sea) and half to the western sea (the Mediterranean)..." Greek and Roman period- Aristotle wrote about the remarkable waters. The Nabateans and others discovered the value of the globs of natural asphalt that constantly floated to the surface where they could be harvested with nets. The Egyptians were steady customers, as they used asphalt in the embalming process that created mummies. The Ancient Romans knew the Dead Sea as "Palus Asphaltites" (Asphalt Lake). King Herod the Great built or rebuilt several fortresses and palaces on the western bank of the Dead Sea. The most famous was Masada, where in 70 CE a small group of Jewish zealots fled after the fall of the destruction of the Second Temple. The zealots survived until 73 CE, when a siege by the X Legion ended in the deaths by suicide of its 960 inhabitants. Another historically important fortress was Machaerus (מכוור), on the eastern bank, where, according to Josephus, John the Baptist was imprisoned by Herod Antipas and died. Also in Roman times, some Essenes settled on the Dead Sea's western shore; Pliny the Elder identifies their location with the words, "on the west side of the Dead Sea, away from the coast ... [above] the town of Engeda" (Natural History, Bk 5.73); and it is therefore a hugely popular but contested hypothesis today, that same Essenes are identical with the settlers at Qumran and that "the Dead Sea Scrolls" discovered during the 20th century in the nearby caves had been their own library. Josephus identified the Dead Sea in geographic proximity to the ancient Biblical city of Sodom. However, he referred to the lake by its Greek name, Asphaltites. Various sects of Jews settled in caves overlooking the Dead Sea. The best known of these are the Essenes of Qumran, who left an extensive library known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. The town of Ein Gedi, mentioned many times in the Mishna, produced persimmon for the temple's fragrance and for export, using a secret recipe. "Sodomite salt" was an essential mineral for the temple's holy incense, but was said to be dangerous for home use and could cause blindness. The Roman camps surrounding Masada were built by Jewish slaves receiving water from the towns around the lake. These towns had drinking water from the Ein Feshcha springs and other sweetwater springs in the vicinity. Byzantine period- Intimately connected with the Judean wilderness to its northwest and west, the Dead Sea was a place of escape and refuge. The remoteness of the region attracted Greek Orthodox monks since the Byzantine era. Their monasteries, such as Saint George in Wadi Kelt and Mar Saba in the Judean Desert, are places of pilgrimage.

Qumran is a small settlement on the west shore of the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea Scrolls were found nearby. The archaeology of this settlement sheds light on the Jewish community that lived here and how they were connected to the Dead Sea Scrolls. It was amazing to see Wadi Rum from the back of a camel, such a peaceful way to experience Wadi Rum. Once we reached the Dead Sea we enjoyed a couple of excellent Lebanese meals. 01:37 Camel Ride at Wadi Rum - Along with a truck safari, one of the best ways to see Wadi Rum is my taking a camel ride. Due to the rain, we couldn’t ride camels the day before, so we decided to ride today in the morning. Although it quite hurt my legs, it was well worth it, and a very fun way to see Wadi Rum. After having breakfast at the tented camp, and riding the camels, we jumped in the car and started driving towards the Dead Sea. 05:08 Mount Nebo - 1 JD ($1.41) - On the way to the Dead Sea, we stopped off at Mount Nebo, the place where God showed Moses the promised land with a view overlooking an expansive area of land, we could even see the Dead Sea. It was an amazing view. 05:59 Ocean Restaurant (Dead Sea) - As soon as we reached the Dead Sea, we were all very hungry, so we stopped at Ocean Restaurant, a Lebanese restaurant with a view of the sea. All of a sudden they started bringing masses of mezze to our table, until the point where there was literally not a single empty space on our table. There were so many different dips and appetizer dishes to choose from including cheese sticks, kibbeh, heart of palm salad, hummus, grape leaves, tabbouleh, and moutabel. There were so many different Lebanese mezze dishes that I forgot all about the Dead Sea! For our main dish at Ocean Restaurant we had a dish called sayadieh, which is a seafood platter including fish and biryani rice served with a tomato sauce. There was both fried and grilled fish, and what I really liked in the dish was that it was served with a deep fried onion, which tasted fantastic. For dessert, they brought out giant plates of fruit and a variety of different desserts including osmalieh and aish el saraya. 13:13 Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort - After our incredible late lunch, we drove to the Crown Plaza Resort, and checked in. We stayed just for one night. 14:07 Burj Al Hamam - Lebanese Restaurant at Crown Plaza Hotel - For dinner we ate at Burj Al Hamam, one of the most well known restaurant names in Lebanese food in Jordan. Again, we were served an impressive array of different mezze starter dishes, but they served us a few dishes that were different from what we had eaten for lunch including kibbeh nayyeh. I’ve always been a huge fan of different types of raw meat dishes, and kibbeh nayyeh is the Lebanese version of raw minced beef mixed with a variety of spices. It’s typically eaten with garlic sauce and olive oil to garnish, and scooped up with pieces of bread. It was amazing. For our main dish we had mixed grill, including kebabs, lamb pieces, and chicken, and then kebab khashkhash, kebabs in tomato sauce. Again, the food was excellent. -- Check out my Amman, Jordan Travel Guide: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/amman-jordan/ (Including where to stay, what to see, safety information, and extra tips) MY WEBSITES: Migrationology.com: http://migrationology.com/ EatingThaiFood.com: http://eatingthaifood.com/ TravelByYing.com: http://travelbyying.com/ T-shirts & Food Guides: https://migrationology.com/store/ Resources: http://migrationology.com/travel-resources/ SOCIAL MEDIA: Snapchat: @migrationology Instagram: https://instagram.com/migrationology Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/migrationology Thank you very much for watching this Jordan food and travel video! --

SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/VicStefanu - Let's travel for about an hour away from Dakar, the capital city of Senegal in West Africa where there is an unusual lake that will surely catch the unsuspecting visitor’s eye because of its unusual yet vivid pink colour. Lake Retba (or Lac Rose as it is known by locals) is separated only by some narrow dunes from the Atlantic Ocean and, as expected its salt content is very high. Its salinity content compares to that of the Dead Sea and its distinct pink colour is caused by the Dunaliella salina bacteria which produce a red pigment in order to absorb the sunlight, thus giving the lake its unique colour. The remains of Sodom and Gomorrah, situated beside the Dead Sea, can be easily visited today. These sites were first identified by Ron Wyatt in the late 1980s. As this video shows, Lab tests help confirm that these locations are indeed the remains of the ancient cities, destroyed by the fire and brimstone as described in Genesis 19. These cities are a testimony to the validity of God's Word, and a reminder that God is both a God of justice as well as mercy.

Here is the top list of mysterious sunken underwater cities in the world found underwater! These strange and mindblowing but also amazing forgotten ancient underwater ruins are located deep into the ocean. Yonaguni Pyramids In the mid 80s, Divers found underwater rock terraces and pyramids off the coast of Yonaguni Jima. Yonaguni Jima is an island that lies near the southern tip of Japan's Ryukyu archipelago, About 75 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan. At first scientists believed they might be natural formations, but There are quarry marks and some writing on the stones and animal statues that have also been found underwater. Now some experts believe that The structures Could be what is left of the mythical city of Mu, a fabled Pacific civilization rumored to have vanished beneath the waves. Masaki Kimura, a marine geologist from the University of Japan, Has been studying the underwater pyramids for over 15 years. The underwater structures include castle ruins, a triumphal arch, five temples and at least one large stadium, all of which are Connected by roads and water channels and are partly shielded by what could be huge retaining walls. Kimura believes the ruins date back to at least 5,000 years, based on the dates of stalactites found inside underwater caves that he says sank with the city. The theory is that the ancient underwater city Might have been sunk by an earthquake or tsunami around 2,000 years ago. Yonaguni invites tourists and researchers to dive freely around the site. 2. Sunken City of Cuba In 2001, A company called Advanced Digital Communications (ADC) was working with Fidel Castro's government to explore Cuban waters looking for sunken Spanish ships loaded with treasure. Their Sonar equipment picked up a series of geometrical structures lying on the bottom of the ocean. Here's a computer generated image of the pyramids and other structures found underwater. The structures and design made it look like there was A gigantic underwater city at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle. The media went crazy claiming that Atlantis had been discovered in Cuba. There are local legends of the Maya and native Yucatecos that tell of an Island inhabited by their ancestors that vanished beneath the waves. If it's true the structures were made by an ancient civilization, they would have been the Most technologically advanced structures on the planet at that time. Scientists estimate that they would have been built about 50,000 years ago which doesn't seem very likely. The numerous structures and cities that have been discovered underwater around the world Lie less than 120 meters (or 395 feet) below sea level, which comes as no surprise since the sea level never fell below this mark during the time Homo sapiens walked the earth. This Cuban city, if we can call it that, is the Only exception since It is submerged over 700 meters (2300 feet) underwater. If the large structures are actually pyramids, 2 of them are Even larger than the pyramids of Giza and Cheops in Egypt. As of yet there is no plausible explanation for the existence of this city and ADC is still trying to investigate the site. 3. Lake Titicaca Lake Titicaca is Located in the Andes between Bolivia and Peru. It is the largest freshwater lake in South America and was the cradle of Peru's ancient civilizations, including the Inca. Their presence can be seen on Lake Titicaca by the ruins they left behind, including A mysterious underwater temple thought to be between 1,000 and 1,500 years old. In the Incan creation myth, The god Con Tiqui Viracocha emerged from Lake Titicaca. After commanding the sun, moon, and the stars to rise, Viracocha created more human beings from stone. After bringing them to life, Viracocha Commanded them to go and populate the world. The Incas therefore believed that Lake Titicaca was their place of origin, and that upon death, Their spirits would return to this lake. Archeologists located a huge temple in 2000 after following a submerged road (and I'm sure following advice from locals). After 18 days of diving below the clear waters of Titicaca, scientists said they had Discovered a 660-foot long, 160-foot wide temple, a terrace for crops, and a 2,600-foot containing wall along with gold and statues. It is said the lost city was Covered with sediment during a great flood of biblical proportions and local people had passed down the stories of the underwater temple and flood from generation to generation.

Jordan is a great introduction for people who are just starting to travel in the Middle East. The country provides a balance between traditional and cultural aspects of the region and a modern atmosphere. Amman is a perfect example, providing many modern luxuries, while preserving its unique Jordanian culture. In the more than 2 million inhabitants of the capital of the country, we can admire the ancient ruins - the historic Citadel of Amman, the Roman temple of Hercules and the VIII-century complex Umayyad Palace. Amman - the capital of Jordan - is one of the oldest permanently inhabited cities in the world! Recorded by GoPro Hero7 Black in January 2019. Take a tour of Dead Sea in Jordan -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The Dead Sea is really one of the most remarkable spots on earth. With over 1300 feet below sea level, it is the lowest point on the earth's surface. It is also one of the saltiest places, with a composition of 35% salinity. This sometimes creates fascinating and bizarre crystalline formations around the Dead Sea's shoreline. The salinity of the lake is so high that very few plants or animals can survive. About the only things living in the Dead Sea are the human tourists who come here. It's an idyllic place to relax, with white beaches and bright blue water.

Visit us at www.MuslimTravelers.com This cave situated close to the Dead Sea is where the Prophet Lut [Lot] (upon him be peace) sought refuge in after the destruction of Sodom, his village. In Islam, Lut (upon him be peace), like all the other Prophets of Allah is regarded as being righteous and the upholder of all forms of moral conduct. There occurs a major difference between the Islamic and Judeo/Christian beliefs regarding what happened to Lut (upon him be peace) and his daughters after they fled the destruction of Sodom. According to "Who's Who in the Bible" by Peter Calvocoressi, after they went to live in the cave the two daughters of Lut (upon him be peace) feared they would never get a man so they plotted to make their father seduce them when he was drunk. They took it in turns and each subsequently bore a son who became the ancestors of the Moabites and Ammonites. The story is told in Genesis 19:30-36: 30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. The allegation of drunkenness and incestuous behaviour of Lut (upon him be peace) is completely rejected in Islam who regard him as one of the mightiest messengers of Allah (God) who were all examples of moral and spiritual rectitude. These hands remain holding on to what is dead. I can't take them away. My skin is suffering. Each vein is blackening. Now everyone I meet is dying with the past. It's simple room to breathe that I have not recieved. May restoration fall on these broken wings. No time to waste, this healing must take place. Don't let the darkness consume me. Dont let the darkness get the best of me. These hands remain holding on to what is dead. Now everyone I meet is just lying like the rest. Let go of broken wings. Let go of dead beliefs. A complete guide to visiting Masada, the Dead Sea, Ein Gedi and Qumran. This video will show you all you need to know about the main sites in the Judaean Desert. Here’s what this video is about: Masada: How do you get there? A brief history of Masada and information about the best way to see Masada – an unknown trail that surrounds Masada. The Dead Sea is one of the wonders of the world. It is the lowest point on earth and you can float on its dense salty waters! Where are the best beaches and what do you need to be aware of? Ein Gedi is a national park that is home to two spring-fed streams with drinkable water that flow all year round - Nahal David and Nahal Arugot. A visit to Ein Gedi combines history – there is an ancient, 6,000-year-old temple, and a beautiful synagogue with a mosaic floor – and wildlife – there are plants that originally come from Africa, and you get to see animals including the ibex and the rock hyrax. Ein Gedi is perfect for those who love hiking. Most visitors go for two to three hours, but there are also longer full-day treks. Qumran is a small archeological site. I describe it as the most important unimpressive site in the world. The site is hardly spectacular in itself, but in order to understand it you need to look at the cliffs all around and know the history of the place. The Dead Sea scrolls were found in the caves set in the cliffs around Qumran. This is one of the most important archeological finds in Israel and the world.
