A 9 year old chain smoker from Indonesia - vpro Metropolis
By now the whole world knows that smoking is bad for you. But if you've been smoking like a chimney since you were just 4 years old, it's very difficult to quit. Ilham is now 9 and already did several rehab attempts, but he and his cigarettes remain inseparable... vpro Metropolis was a video project by Dutch broadcast organisation vpro, that ran from 2008 to 2015. Metropolis is made by a global collective of young filmmakers and TV producers, reporting on remarkable stories from their own country/city. We made a trip around the globe on one single issue: from local beauty ideals to Elvis impersonators, to what's it like being gay, or an outcast or a dog in different cultures. Indonesian Street Food - Nasi Goreng Ayam - Chicken Fried Rice
Nasi goreng with chicken, egg and prawn cracker Nasi goreng, literally meaning "fried rice" in Indonesian and Malay, can refer simply to fried pre-cooked rice, a meal including stir fried rice in small amount of cooking oil or margarine, typically spiced with kecap manis (sweet soy sauce), shallot, garlic, ground shrimp paste, tamarind and chilli and accompanied by other ingredients, particularly egg, chicken and prawns. There is also another kind of nasi goreng which is made with ikan asin (salted dried fish) which is also popular across Indonesia. Nasi goreng is sometimes described as Indonesian stir-fried rice,[3] although it is also popular in Malaysia, Singapore and the Netherlands. It is distinguished from other Asian fried rice recipes by its aromatic, earthy and smoky flavor; owed to generous amount of caramelized sweet soy sauce and powdered shrimp paste, and the taste is stronger and spicier compared to Chinese fried rice. Nasi goreng has been called the national dish of Indonesia, though there are many other contenders. It can be enjoyed in simple versions from a tin plate at a roadside food stall, eaten on porcelain in restaurants, or collected from the buffet tables of Jakarta dinner parties. Nasi goreng is distinguished from other Asian fried rice recipes by its aromatic, earthy and smoky flavour; owed to generous amount of caramelized kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and ground powdered terasi (shrimp paste), and the taste is stronger and spicier compared to Chinese fried rice. Nasi goreng often includes krupuk and bawang goreng (fried shallots) or (fried onions) to give a crispier texture. The main ingredients of nasi goreng include pre-cooked rice, sweet soy sauce, powdered shrimp paste, salt, garlic, shallot, chilli pepper, spring onions, nutmeg, turmeric, vegetable oil, onions, palm sugar, ginger garlic paste, and slices of cucumber and tomato for garnishing. Some recipes may add black pepper, terasi (shrimp paste), fish sauce, or powdered broth as a seasoning and taste enhancer. Eggs might be mixed into fried rice or fried separately, either as telur ceplok/telur mata sapi (sunny side up eggs), or telur dadar (omelette), and also telur rebus (boiled eggs). Originally optional, the addition of fried egg is often named as nasi goreng spesial (pakai telur) or special fried rice topped with fried egg.

Nasi Goreng | Indonesian Fried Rice | Fried Rice Friday #3
For this third instalment of Fried Rice Fridays we're headed to Indonesia. Nasi goreng literally just means 'fried rice' in Bahasa and the key to this dish is the aromatic "rempah" made from eschallots, garlic, chilli and shrimp paste. It can be as simple as rice fried with the rempah and topped with a fried egg, or you can add other ingredients to it like I have here, with chicken, prawns and green beans. The Ultimate Indonesian Food Day Trip - HUGE Nasi Liwet Feast!
►Check out my list of 50 incredible Indonesian foods: https://migrationology.com/indonesian-food/ ►Ken's channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtMgyCDsju9EtUf2yBM0aZw During my trip to Jakarta, I mostly remained in the city. But Ken and Gratiana from http://cowokrakus.com/ invited my wife Ying and I to go with them and their family on an Indonesian food trip to Bogor and the surrounding region (about an hour from Jakarta). Our first stop when we drove out of Jakarta and to Bogor was a famous place to eat Bogor style laksa at a restaurant called Laksa Bogor Pak Inin. It was exactly my kind of a restaurant, open air and local, with a wonderful friendly environment. The laksa was unlike any other laksa I’ve ever had, and it was fantastic. Laksa Bogor - 10,000 IDR ($0.72) Next, we stopped at a place called Toge Goreng Pak Abung, which is another legendary Indonesian food stop in Bogor, Indonesia, and they are famous for serving a bean sprout snack. It was definitely a very interesting dish, including a mixture of bean sprouts and fermented soy beans. Toge Goreng - 7,000 IDR ($0.51) Next we drove into the beautiful Indonesian countryside and to the house. After having some Indonesian snacks and refreshing coconut, we then took a hike to go look for honey. The beekeeper was sick on the day we went, so we we’re able to get any honey, but it was still a beautiful hike. The highlight of this Indonesian food trip for me was the Sundanese style Nasi Liwet Botram family feast that we had. All the food was laid out on banana leaves, and we all sat and ate some of the most beautiful and flavorful Indonesian food. It was an incredible culinary experience. We drove back to Bogor and stopped at Warung Nasi Ampera to eat a quick dinner, and because I wanted to try some ikan pepes. The food was alright, but nothing compared to the lunch feast we had eaten! Total price - 103,000 IDR ($7.46) for 3 plates of food Finally, back in Jakarta, we stopped near Manga Besar to have some desserts and to finish of this incredible day of Indonesian food. Sekoteng - 12,000 IDR ($0.87), Wedang Ronde - 12,000 IDR ($0.87) It was an incredible Indonesian food trip to the outskirts of Bogor, and a nice opportunity to get out of Jakarta for the day. A big thank you to Ken, Gratiana, and her family for inviting us to their house country house and for the amazing food. -- KEN: Videos : https://www.youtube.com/c/cowokrakustube Blog: http://cowokrakus.com/ MY WEBSITES: Migrationology.com: http://migrationology.com/ EatingThaiFood.com: http://eatingthaifood.com/ TravelByYing.com: http://travelbyying.com/ Camera I use: https://migrationology.com/travel-resources/ T-shirts: https://migrationology.com/store/ Get e-mail updates: https://migrationology.com/free-updates SOCIAL MEDIA: Snapchat: @migrationology Instagram: https://instagram.com/migrationology Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/migrationology ►Jakarta Travel Guide: https://migrationology.com/travel-guides/jakarta-indonesia/ ►50 of the Best Indonesian Dishes: https://migrationology.com/indonesian-food/ -- Thank you for watching this Indonesian food video!

What is Indonesian National Revolution?, Explain Indonesian National Revolution
~~~ Indonesian National Revolution ~~~ Title: What is Indonesian National Revolution?, Explain Indonesian National Revolution Created on: 2018-08-16 Source Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesian_National_Revolution ------ Description: The Indonesian National Revolution, or Indonesian War of Independence , was an armed conflict and diplomatic struggle between the Republic of Indonesia and the Dutch Empire and an internal social revolution during postwar and postcolonial Indonesia. It took place between Indonesia's declaration of independence in 1945 and the Netherlands' recognition of Indonesia's independence at the end of 1949. The four year struggle involved sporadic but bloody armed conflict, internal Indonesian political and communal upheavals, and two major international diplomatic interventions. Dutch military forces were able to control the major towns, cities and industrial assets in Republican heartlands on Java and Sumatra but could not control the countryside. By 1949, international pressure on the Netherlands and the partial military stalemate became such that it recognised Indonesian independence.The revolution marked the end of the colonial administration of the Dutch East Indies, except for Netherlands New Guinea. It also significantly changed ethnic castes as well as reducing the power of many of the local rulers . It did not significantly improve the economic or political fortune of the majority of the population, although a few Indonesians were able to gain a larger role in commerce. ------ To see your favorite topic here, fill out this request form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScU0dLbeWsc01IC0AaO8sgaSgxMFtvBL31c_pjnwEZUiq99Fw/viewform ------ Source: Wikipedia.org articles, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. [Intelligence-High School Debate] Governments should provide a universal basic income _ Part.1
Governments should provide a universal basic income / 정부는 기본 소득 제공을 보장해야한다. What would it be like if governments provided an unconditional sum of money to all citizens regardless of income or property owned? That way, we can spread the wealth in our society, thereby reducing the growing inequality across the nation or even the world. However, others claim that recipients might lose sight of the value of hard work, which is one of the most noble and treasured aspects of life. On the third episode of “Intelligence – High School Debate,” students from Incheon International High School, Seongnam Foreign Language High School, Hana Academy Seoul and Yang Jae High School debate over the motion “This house believes that governments should provide a universal basic income.” So, which two teams will make it into the semifinals this week? 세 번째 토론 대결의 출전 학교는 바로 [인천국제고등학교 vs 성남외국어고등학교 vs 하나고등학교 vs 양재고등학교] 참가자들의 뜨거운 관심 속 밝혀진 세 번째 토론 주제! 정부는 기본 소득 제공을 보장해야한다. 세금의 증가와 비윤리적 소득! vs 복지제도의 사각지대 속 절대적 빈곤 철폐! 완벽한 동의 없는 그 치열한 갈등 속, 다가올 세상을 이끌어 갈 우리 시대 청소년들의 생각은 과연? 얼마 남지 않은 발언 시간 속 계속되는 상대 측 POI와의 싸움! 그리고 찬반 진영 각 연사들 중 예상치 못한 에이스의 등장으로 술렁이는 심사위원들! 호스트 서미소랑 또한 감탄을 금치 못했는데... 각 학교의 명예를 건 미래 글로벌 리더들 중 준결승전에 진출할 단 두 팀? Grinding Teeth: The Wild Indonesian Coming Of Age Ritual
For teens in Bali, adulthood bites different. Balinese teens come of age with a traditional ceremony that involves grinding down their upper canine teeth—a metaphorical and physical break from their animal instincts and ancestral roots. This ceremony is seen as the final responsibility a parent has to their child. VICE Indonesia follows Gek Sri as she undergoes her own “defanging” ceremony to see how Bali’s youngest generation of adults is taking on a tradition with deep roots on the island and ask whether a new set of teeth is “adulting” or actually adulthood. A classic indonesian dish that will please just about everyone in the family! Chewy egg noodles stir-fried in a sweet-salty sauce, with lot of crunchy veggies and juicy tomatoes. The sauce is the heart of this dish, but beyond that, you can add whatever meat or veggies you like! Indonesian Street Food Tour of Glodok (Chinatown) in Jakarta - DELICIOUS Indonesia Food!
►Check out 50 of the Best Indonesian Dishes: https://migrationology.com/indonesian-food/ Glodok is the Chinatown of Jakarta, and my wife and I decided to spend the day walking around Glodok and exploring some Indonesian street food throughout the day. At the end of the day, we also stopped by Fatahillah Square, with is an old Dutch square in colonial Jakarta, where you'll find some interesting buildings and some street food snacks as well. Since we were staying at a hotel (here’s information on the hotel I stayed at:https://migrationology.com/travel-guides/jakarta-indonesia/) not too far from Glodok, we decided to beat the traffic and just walk over there. It didn’t take more than 15 minutes to walk, and soon we arrived in Jakarta’s Chinatown. Glodok is a very interesting area to walk around and explore. There are fresh markets and plenty of restaurants and food to choose from. The Indonesian street food I tried on this tour was siomay, an Indonesian Chinese dish. From the back of a motorbike, I chose a few of the siomay dumplings he had steaming, and the cut them up and added some peanut sauce to the plate. The texture was a little mushy, but they were alright. Right opposite the siomay, the owner of an Indonesian vegetarian restaurant greeted me and asked if I might like to eat some of his vegetarian food. His vegetarian rendang was particularly good. One of the most famous places to go in Glodok is Kopi Es Tak Kie, a legendary coffee shop. After wandering around a while we found it. I had a cup of coffee and also a plate of nasi campur from outside the shop. We continued on our Indonesian street food tour throughout Glodok and I tried a sweet snack called kue ape, which is a green colored little pancake. Next, I had a variety of deep fried snacks including fried bananas, and fried breadfruit. They are definitely pretty greasy, but interesting to sample, and they are very popular street food snacks in Indonesia. It probably wasn’t the greatest idea to walk, but we decided to walk over to Fatahillah Square. The traffic was pretty intense, but we made it. And along with checking out the old colonial buildings one of my main goals was to try kerak telor, which is a traditional Indonesian Betawi street food snack. Luckily I found it and it turned out to be a very interesting and amazing snack to watch being made! Here’s the list of the things we ate and the prices: Siomay - 15,000 IDR ($1.11) Vegetarian food - 20,000 IDR ($1.48) Kopi Es Tak Kie - 10,000 IDR ($0.73) Nasi campur - 35,000 IDR ($2.58) Kue ape - 1,000 IDR ($0.07) each Fried snacks - 12,000 ($0.88) Kerak telor - 20,000 IDR ($1.48) - Possibly overcharged? Do you think? Hope you enjoyed the Indonesian street food tour of Glodok and Fatahillah Square, I sure enjoyed eating it! -- MY WEBSITES: Camera I use: https://migrationology.com/travel-resources/ T-shirts: https://migrationology.com/store/ Migrationology.com: http://migrationology.com/ EatingThaiFood.com: http://eatingthaifood.com/ TravelByYing.com: http://travelbyying.com/ SOCIAL MEDIA: Snapchat: @migrationology Instagram: https://instagram.com/migrationology Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/migrationology ►Jakarta Travel Guide: https://migrationology.com/travel-guides/jakarta-indonesia/ ►50 of the Best Indonesian Dishes: https://migrationology.com/indonesian-food/ --
Beef Rendang Recipe - Pai's Kitchen | Malaysian / Indonesian Recipe
Voted the most delicious food in the world, this Indonesian/Malaysian beef curry is one of the most complex flavoured dishes I've ever made. Herbs, spices and coconut milk are slowly cooked and reduced into a thick flavourful sauce that coats the fork tender beef. It's a dish that takes patience, but it's quite easy and is well worth every minute spent. Beef is my favourite but you can also try making chicken rendang, using bone-in dark meat chicken. This Is What Life Is Like Under Sharia Law | VICE on HBO
In Aceh, Sharia rules all. In this Indonesian province, hardliners began enforcing Islamic law in the wake of the devastating 2004 tsunami that killed more than 200,000 people, telling the survivors that it was the wrath of God punishing them for their sins. Today, Sharia police roam the streets busting gamblers, drinkers, and adulterers, and sending them off to be publicly caned by "executioners." VICE founder Suroosh Alvi travels to Aceh and across Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, to experience Sharia up close and investigate its correlation to terrorism, as well as meet those who are fighting back against it. OVER 100 YEAR OLD WARUNG + Jogja COMFORT FOOD + Charcoal Coffee: Borobudur, Indonesia
This is the 6th in the eight part Indonesian series and the 4th of the 4 part Yogyakarta! So much amazing food to come from this artsy, college, food packed city! I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my friend Andre. Andre is one of the most influential food bloggers in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. You can find his work in places like: Instagram: @makankeliling Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/makankelilings The final day!!!! Started off with some good ole Jogja comfort food, Gudeg. A young jackfruit simmered down in coconut, palm sugar, and other spices! I went to one of the most popular places in Jogja for this and it did not disappoint at all! Super sweet, but when combined together, was well balanced. Next up, a rice stall that is over 100 years old! Not only was the food delicious enough to make me understand why and how they had been open for that long, but they are just extremely friendly people, and the prices is definitely right! It was time to take a break and what better break in Jogja than Kopi Joss! Pretty much two ways you can get it and I must say I was surprised at the sweetness of both types! Lastly, I decided to change things up and go for some Indo-Chinese food. A restaurant that is the go to place for when you need that Chinese food fix. However, I didn’t quite enjoy some dishes as they just aren’t my favorite style; however, I will say they cooked the food perfectly and if you did need that Chinese food fix, that would be the place to go in Jogja. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just a guy from Arkansas chasing his dreams of traveling the world, meeting amazing people, and trying all the delicious food I can find! Recently finished working in Hong Kong. I am from a small farm in the states, I am now taking advantage and the opportunities I have to travel the world in search of some of the most delicious foods, unique places, and friendliest people. A lover of street food, good laughs, and learning about other cultures. What $2 a day really means Indonesian style
I was back in the lucky country the other month and happened to pick up on the ABC a supposed expert on Indonesia's economy explaining how terrible it was there for the locals on $2 a day, What this supposed expert DIDN"T mention was the price of commodities in Indonesia as opposed to the prices in OZ, for good reason most people would be shocked & pissed off if they knew how little Indonesians pay for practically everything, including Petrol which as I write is 45 cents ozzy, Our monthly power bill is $10 yes you read that right $10. It's still one of those silly public utilities here with the quaint idea that it's there to serve the people not profit for private investors.No GST, no ticket wielding police,In fact the police actually man intersections & help people radical ! no speed cameras, No road rules (except common sense) OMG i think it's called personal freedom to do what you like without hurting anyone else !. What a terrible place ! Increasingly I am realizing that the average Australian is actually poorer and more in debt than most Indonesians, the story constantly reinforced on Australia's MSM is that Australian's are much better off than those poor people in 3RD world countries, It's an easy storyline to sell because most people anywhere want to assume they are better off than their neighbours.But I have to tell you my situation in Australia in relation to providing for myself and covering costs would be much harder & a lower quality of life compared to the foods, utilities & rental costs here. I rented a 2 bedroom house in Bali for 2 years ending last year for the grand total of $1,500 per year ! try that in Oz more like 2 months at best, Of course not everyone wants to live here I know that, the main point is why does Australia cost so much more ? is it the price of production? are you telling me that international cigarette companies spend more making a cigarette in Australia / with it's mechanized systems of production? ok let's say they spend twice as much per cigarette it still doesn't make up the gap. Somehow cigarette companies can put 20 ciggies in a nice shiny packet and have them on the shelves RETAIL for $1 ozzy. so let's assume the wholesale price is 50 cents per pack.Obviously the only significant difference must be the taxation, This is not about the pro's & cons of smoking it's about the price of a commodity. Obviously there is very little Government taxation involved in Indonesian cigarettes. This is also reflected in most other commodities, So one has to assume that the major inflater of costs is taxation, And by the looks of it Australians are being Taxed to the shithouse.Another way of putting it is HARVESTED of their personal wealth, From where I'm standing it's the " lucky country to be out of ".It's still a crown owned operation and the so called freedoms enjoyed look like an illusion designed for people who would prefer to not look too hard at the reality of their situation, Bring on the footy & all is well.All i know here is no matter what I do on the roads there will be no police fine waiting for me in my letterbox in a weeks time. That's not what the driving experience feels like in Australia anymore, One momentary lapse in Australia and your gone, everyone is on edge most of the time they are driving, constantly checking the speedo in case it's crept over the limit. Don't tell me it's not like that I know I live there also from time to time, Policing is a corporate entity in Australia designed to fleece the sheep nothing more, nothing else makes sense.
How to Make Tempeh [Homemade] - Easy Method
✿ Veganlovlie Recipes / How to Make Tempeh : Tempeh is one of the most rewarding things to make at home. I blogged about homemade tempeh back in 2012 but now it was time to make the video and share the experience that I have gained in making tempeh for several years. I have been able to improve the process into a much less laborious one with equally satisfying results. The best. best, best thing about traveling is getting to taste new and different food. Indonesia was no exception. Food variety is inmense! And it varies from island to island. Indonesian food is supposed to be spicy, but since Bali is such a touristy island, you will find that most of the restaurants there have lowered the amount of chili and spices they put on their food. But if you visit other island that are not so touristy, for example Lombok, you will find that food is a bit more spicy, and in our opinion, more traditional and less tropicalized. The backbone of Indonesian food is of course, south east asian cuisine; wich means noodles, seafood, sweet chilies, bok choi, oyster sauce, soy sauce, etc. One of Indonesia's main local dish is dog, but you will not find this anywhere in Bali, at least we didn't, you'd have to go to an island more in the north, for example Yakarta. You will ether love or hate Indonesian food. It has very strong flavours, so this is something controversial for a lt of people. Their two most common dishes are Nasi Goreng (fried rice) and Mie Goreng (fried noodles), this both can go served wth chicken, beef, seafood, vegetables, egg, etc. Anyway, Bali is an island in which you will find ALL sorts of food. Tourism has taken over and there is a restaurant for every type of person. And although this is great, we recommed once you are here, try their local food, their street food, since only this way you will truly get to know Indonesia.
IKO UWAIS | Best Fight Scenes Clip Compilation
Iko Uwais is an unbelievably-fast-punching Indonesian martial arts star who is capable of pummelling the bejeezus out of hordes of mooks and extras and stuntmen with whatever objects happen to be laying around the movie sets at the time they unleash him. He's the 2005 National Champion in the Indonesian martial art, Penchak Silat, a pretty badass fighting style that combines all the best parts of Thai kickboxing. The Indonesian actor and martial artist burst onto the scene with Merantau and had an even bigger breakthrough in The Raid. Headshot, from directors Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel (collectively known as the Mo brothers, though they are not actual brothers), has Uwais doing what he does best — kicking ass and taking names — with spectacularly entertaining results.
